Installation Troubleshooting

1 Introduction

This document contains advice on fast fault management during cabinet startup.

Note: This document does not describe how to replace faulty units.

For more detailed maintenance instructions, see Fault Localization.

2 Optical Indicators

The purpose of the indicators is to provide a fast way to indicate the operational
status of the equipment. The general principles are as follows:

Red Fault in unit.

Yellow Status information or fault in connected Replaceable

Unit (RU) or functions.

Green RU is operational.

Flashing indicator Wait, activity in progress.

(green, yellow, or
red)

Note: If a fault indicator is on, then check with the Operation and Maintenance
Terminal (OMT) for possible faults.

3 Troubleshooting

This section contains advice on fault management in the cabinet. If more

information is required about how to handle certain RBS units or equipment,
then refer to Fault Localization.

Installation Troubleshooting

3.1 Power
This section contains advice on fault management in the power equipment
of the RBS.

If the System Voltage is too low, then check that:

The external power is correct
The number of installed Power Supply Unit (PSU) is sufficient to
maintain the required system voltage level at the current RBS load
The PSUs are working correctly and that all cables are connected

If the RBS stops operating while powered by batteries, then check that:
The battery fuse, located at the BFU is on
The Internal Distribution Module (IDM) has been installed correctly
The voltage on the batteries is correct
The batteries have been installed correctly
The battery temperature sensor is working correctly.

3.2 Replaceable Units

This section contains advice on fault management in the RUs of the RBS.

Climate and Fans

If the fans are running at maximum speed, then check that:

The Fan Fault indicator is working
All fans are switched on
The input voltage is lower than +26 V DC

DXU

If the OMT cannot be connected, then check that:

The correct version of the OMT is in use for the RBS software
The cable connection between the OMT and the Distribution Switch
Unit (DXU) is undamaged and correctly connected

Installation Troubleshooting

If the RBS Fault indicator (yellow) is on, then:

Check the fault status with the OMT and follow the actions
recommended
Check that the correct Installation Database (IDB) is installed and
install it if necessary

If there is no communication with the DRU, then:

Check the Y-link cable and its connections
Check if software is still being loaded.
Check that the correct IDB is installed and install it if necessary
Check that the Double Radio Unit (DRU) is correctly installed
Push the DXU reset button

If the IDB cannot be installed, then:

Check that the correct version of the OMT is in use for the RBS software
Push the local/remote button to set the DXU in local mode

If the DXU is in Reset, then:

Wait 5 minutes before switching the power off
Switch the DXU off and then on again

FCU

If the Fault indicator (red) is on, then:

Check if the input voltage is out of range
Check if the fan alarm indicator is on

PSU

If the Fault indicator (red) is on, then:

Check that the alarm bus cable is connected in each PSU and DXU

DRU

If the DRU does not function properly, then:

Switch off the DRU and wait 3 seconds before switching it on again

Installation Troubleshooting

If the DRU cannot be reset, then:

Switch off the DRU and then switch it on again
Reset the DRU using the OMT

If the DRU is stuck in local mode, then:

Note: Before performing any corrective actions, read and save the IDB and
log files from the DXU/DRUs.
After switching on the DRU again, check the Y-link cable
Wait 7 minutes while the software is loading, then switch off the DRU
Switch off the DRU
Reset the DRU and/or DXU
Send the log files and the faulty unit for analysis

If a DRU or DXU is not loading, then:

Reset the DRU and/or DXU
Check that the correct IDB is installed
Check that the DRUs are inserted correctly
Check that the DRU can be viewed with the OMT

3.3 OMT
This section contains advice on fault management if there are problems when
connecting the OMT to the RBS.

If the OMT cannot be connected, then:

Check that the software in the OMT can support the software in the RBS
Check that the cable connection between the OMT and the DXU is
undamaged and correctly connected

If the OMT does not install the IDB, then:

check that the software in the OMT can support the software in the RBS
Push the local/remote button to set the DXU in local mode

If the OMT does not read the IDB, then:

Check that the cable is correctly connected

Installation Troubleshooting

Push the DXU reset button to reset the DXU

If the OMT view shows units that are physically missing, then:

Configure and download a new IDB

Push the DXU reset button
Note: The fault appears if a downgrade is performed and no new IDB is
installed.
