Date: 31/3/17
Goal: Try to choose the animal that we are going to use in the experiment
Reflection: Today, we try to divide the group. When we already decide the
group we try to do the research about hamster and guinea pig. I did some
research about what hamster and guinea pig eat, where it usually lives, how
we train them, and what is some specific condition they need. I didnt finish the
goal on research the information about both animals. I want to continue this
research during Songkran day. I will do the research so I can decide which
animal I should choose. I will select the animals that need less care.

Goal: finished create the research question and create the hypothesis of the
experience.
Reflection: Today, we need to finish the research question. In this class, I
create the research question base on what we want to know for the project.
And I also create the hypothesis and list some material that we are going to
use. I also look at some video about how other people train their guinea pig. I
learn some tips about how to make the guinea pig get familiar with people. I
finish all goals I made. Next class, I will find more information about how to
raise guinea pig correctly and try to decide the how to conduct the experiment.

Goal: Decide the experiment and list the material that we need to use for the experiment
Reflection: At first, my friend and I decided to use sex as the independence variable so we
need 1 male guinea pig and 1 female guinea pig. And then we look at the question that we
need to answer in the proposal and we find the difficulty finding the importance of the
research so we looking for other independence variables. We did some research about the
guinea pig experiment of many scientists. We found one topic that is very interesting. It is the
experiment using different types of food as an independent variable. And we know that
guinea pig needs to consume vitamin C every day because its body cannot naturally made it
so we want to use different type of vitamin C as the independence variable. We were thinking
about natural vitamin C which found in vegetable and fruit and artificial vitamin C which
found in the form of tablet. Then, we went to consult with our teacher about which topic is
more interesting and about what can we write about the importance of each project. Finally,
we came up with the conclusion that our independence variable is sex and the dependence
variable is the improvement of the guinea pig each trial. We also complete material list in
time of class. Today, we accomplished all the goals we set up. In next class, we want to start
finding scientific journal about our research question and start some part of the proposal.

Goal: find 1 scientific journal that relate to our research question
Reflection: Our group decided to do the experiment on comparing male guinea
pig and female guinea pig ability to memory way to finish the maze. So the
scientific journal that we use research about is about rodent or guinea pig,
spatial memory, and differences sex. I used this term as key words to search
on the internet. I found many journals about male and female rodent perform
different task. For example, the morris water maze where the rodents need to
swim in a very large pool and need find the hidden object in the water or radial
arm maze where rodents need to find one way out of eight ways that have a
food. The result from some journals show that there is no differences between
male and female but some journals said that male can recognize pathway
better than female and some journal said that when the rodent get older, their
ability of memorize will be less different between male and female rodent.

Goal: complete proposal outline
Reflection: My group had a meeting on Tuesday and we did most of the outline on
that day. Some topic such as literature review methodology of maze design was not
finish so we need to search for more journals. We need to search on the topic of
rodent classical maze experiment. We also added background information part which
is the list of topics that is related to our research question. We also filled out our
action plan because at first we didnt know when to submit this project but after
knowing the date we can plan the project. We also discussed about finding a cage for
our guinea pigs. We think that we are going to put our guinea pig with Gam, Pear,
Mui, Tientien, and Milly group because they are doing similar experiment as out
group. Our group have 1 female guinea pig and 1 male guinea pig as same as that
group. As we know that guinea pig is social animal so it should not stay alone, my
group decide to put 2 females together and 2 males together. At the end of the class,
we did not finish the outline but we already find the research that we will use in
literature review maze methodology section. We will read and summarize it during
weekend and we will try to send the outline by Sunday. In next class we will start
searching for background information follow the list that we put in our proposal.

Goal: Make a decision of the animal and try to find background information of new
animal
Reflection: Today, we knew the news that the school wont buy guinea pig for us so
we need to change the animals. We change the animal from guinea pig to hamsters
because they are cheaper and they use less area. Also, Wern have hamster cage at
her house so we decide to do the experiment with hamster instead of guinea pig.
After we make a decision, I tried to research for more information about hamster
such as the food, habitat, behavior of hamster. My group and I also decided to go to
the shop at Snam Luang 2 to see the shop and talk to the seller. Seller suggested
that if we want hamster that run fast, we should choose Roborovski hamster because
it can run pretty fast and very friendly. We also saw other types of hamster at the
shop such as winter white hamster, giant hamster, and regular hamster. We did not
buy the hamster yet because we want to make sure that our proposal is good then
we will start our experiment with hamster. Today, I completed the goal. In next class,
I want to finish all background information for the proposal.

Goal: Find the research for literature review and methodology review parts
Reflection: Today, two members are missing and we need to change a lot of thing
in our proposal. After we listen to the comment off our proposal, we divided the
work to make it easy for everyone. I am the one who do the literature review and
methodology part. I did some research about the hamster running a maze
experiments. I found three experiments that did the similar maze with our
experiment. I started to write the literature review. In class, I accomplished my
goal because I can find the research that I will write about in the proposal in
literature review part. Next class, I will finish the proposal and make it ready for
final submission.

Date: 8/5/17
Goal: finish the proposal so it can be turn in by 9:00pm today
Reflection: Today, me, Pangpun and Opal working on project proposal
because our part was not finish. Wern and Nancy cutting the feature board
for making the maze. Our proposal needs to be improves on the pronoun
and add some more analyze on literature review. We also planned that we
will buy the hamster and also buy the cage at Sanam Luang 2. At the end of
the class, we did not finish the proposal but Wern and Nanct already finish
cutting the feature board. We will continue and try to finish the proposal
after school so we have time to check and submit the final draft proposal.
Next class, we will start building the maze.

ANIMALBAHAVIOR TUNTIWARASAKUL
Work Log
Date: 9/5/17
Goal: finish the maze
Reflection: Yesterday, I and Opal went to Sanam Luang and bought 2 Roborovski
hamster, one is female and one is male. We also bought the cage that provided one
house, one toy, one water bottle and one food dish. We bought only one cage
because Wern have another cage at her house and she will bring it today. We asked
the seller that is it okay to put male and female hamster in one cage for one night.
The answer is it okay and there will be no offspring. We also know from the seller
that these hamsters are about 2-months old. The food that we bought for them is the
normal food. Other additional fruit that we can give it need to be peeled first because
the hamsters are very sensitive to pesticide. The food and water need to be change
every day. The bed and the toilet can be change every 2-3 days. Today, we can finish
building the maze. In class we can do most of it so we continue making it after
school. Our goal in next class is making the maze safe for hamster to run inside. We
will make the edge of the feature board smother by taping it and checking the safety
of the maze (the glue dry and strong enough to hold two feature boards together). We
also need to left the maze for a few day to let the glue odor disappear then we can
start the maze experiment.

Date: 16/5/17
Goal: finish putting the tape on the maze to prevent the hamster from eating the glue
Reflection: Before the class starts today, we clean our hamsters cage. We move the
hamster to stay together in one cage and it cause really bad situation. Both hamsters
fight each other and one hamster get wound on its nose. We work as quick as
possible to put the cage together. After we put it separate, both hamsters look calm
but not as calm as when they are during the weekend. One hamster bite Nancy
because she try to catch it. Finally, we will be able to separate them and finish
cleaning the cage for our hamster. I feel very bad and worried about Nancy and the
hamster. Nancy and Wern took the hamster to veterinarian for cleaning the wound
and put some medicine on. Opal, Pangun and I are working on taping the tape on the
maze. We do this because when we put the glue to sticking the corrugated plastic,
the glue is too much and leak out. We think that during the experiment, the hamsters
may eat it if we not remove it from the maze. Instead of remove the extra glue, we
decide to put the tape on so it would hide the glue under it. Now, we can make sure
that the hamsters are safe during running through the maze. We did not complete the
goal in this class because we ran out of time. Next class, we want to finish doing this
and start to do our experiment.

Goal: finish taping the maze
Reflection: Today, we finished making the maze. I decided to make sure
that hamster ready for trying the maze tomorrow. Hamster is still angry at
me. Because we catch them too hard so it upset. I hope that tomorrow
hamster stop angry and can start to do some trial. Hamsters feeling is
very important in this experiment. Hamster should feel the most
comfortable as possible so it can run the maze without any stress. Next
class, I hope to start some trial with one hamster.

ANIMALBAHAVIOR TUNTIWARASAKUL

Goal: Take care of hamster and do first trial
Reflection: Today, one hamster still upset at us but another hamster start
to get familiar with us. We start the first trial with hamster named Taro.
We did this trial because we want to estimate the time use in each trial so
we can adjust the procedure. This trial uses about 2-3 minutes so I think
to adjust the time between each trial from 1 hour to be 30 minutes. Next
class, we will start running the experiment if hamster is ready and not
afraid with human. I dont want to rush the hamster because it can
become aggressive and can go worse.

Work Log
Date:23/5/17
Goal: Distribute work for everyone in the group
Reflection: We did the experiment on Monday 22/5/17 already. We did the
experiment after school. It takes about 3 hours to finish the experiment. We did five
trials for each hamster. According to the experiment, female hamster can finish the
maze 3 times while male hamster can complete the maze only 1 time. Both hamster
look very nervous and scare when we try to put them in maze. We never play with it
before so they still scare of human. Female hamster seems more comfortable with
human than male hamster because it does not run around its cage. Male hamster
can get out of the cage even when the door is closed. It get stress so it try to get out
of the cage. We spend about 5-10 minutes to bring male hamster back inside. Now,
we dont put it in the cage, we put it in the house and we close the door using our
hands. Male hamster and female hamster get 30 minutes rest between each trial.
Maximum time of each trial is 15 minutes.

Work Log
Date: 23/5/17 (continue)
We found that after about 10-12 minutes running around the maze, if hamster
cannot find the way out, hamster will come back to start point and try to sleep.
We decide to use 15 minutes as the maximum time because after 15 minutes
hamster will be tired. At the end of the maze, we put some hamster food but
hamster is too afraid and doesnt eat anything. If hamsters see human hand at
the end of the maze, they will return back to the maze again. I think that result
that we get from this experiment is inaccurate because hamsters have too
much fear which definitely interrupt running ability of hamsters. Today, we
distributed the work. I am response for inforgraphic of project proposal and
data table, Opal responsible for conclusion, flaws, and future directions, Wern
response for video editor, Pangpun and Nacy response for analyzing data of
each trial. In this class, we can complete our goal. Next class we will start
doing our duty.

Goal: Finish work for documentary
Reflection: Today is full period work class. I create slide of information
from our proposal. These slides will be use in documentary video of our
group. These slide are contain of information about background
research, hypothesis, materials, research question, knowledge gap,
overview of experiment, maze design of our group, ethical/human
consideration, data collection, and limitation. Procedure of this
experiment will be complete in video version. I finish until ethical/human
consideration in this class. I will continue this slide on next class.

Date: 25/5/17
Goal: Finish all of slide for documentary
Reflection: This is the last class of animal behavior in this year. I have
about half class to do the project. I start putting pictures of material for
hamster and finish other part of proposal. I realize that I also need to do
data table for the experiment. I did not finish making data table but I can
complete the goal for today. I will working on sending video to other
member during week end.
Date 27/5/17
Reflection: Today, we realize that it should be voice inside the video. We
think that every people will record their voice and send it to Wern so she
can edit it and put it together with the video.
