Salicylic acid (from Latin salix, willow tree) is a monohydroxybenzoic
corrosive acid, a kind of phenolic corrosive, and a beta hydroxy corrosive (BHA). It has the recipe C7H6O3. This lackluster crystalline natural acid is broadly utilized as a part of natural acrylic and capacities as a plant hormone. It is gotten from the digestion of salicin. To add more, it a catalysts metabolite of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), which acts in portion as a prodrug to salicylic acid, it is most likely best referred to for its utilization as a key ingredient in topical anti-acne items. The salts and esters of salicylic acid are known as salicylates. The therapeutic piece of the plant is the inward bark.
Properties (Physical and Chemical) (1)
For Physical, Salicylic acid has a chemical description as: Molecular
weight 138.122 g/mol. It has melting point at 158-161 Celsius, boiling point at 211 Celsius and has density 1.44. It has stable state. There are some substances to avoided reaction: oxidizing agents, strong bases, iodine, and fluorine. In addition, Salicylic acid is combustible and sensitive to the light.
(4)For Chemical, First, it has white needle crystal or crystalline
monoclinic edge, spicy. Its slightly soluble in water, soluble in acetone, turpentine oil, ethanol, ethyl ether, benzene and chloroform. Second, acidity of salicylic acid is stronger than benzoic acid; it becomes darker in color in the sun. In the case of iron ion, it becomes into purple chelate. It reacts with ferric chloride to show purple, is unstable to heat, easy to decarboxylation to produce phenol heating to 200 . Usage
Salicylic acid uses as an organic synthetic raw material in pesticide
product, antiseptic and as intermediates of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and other drugs. It also an important raw material of dye, spices, such as rubber industry.
It can be verification for aluminum, boron, cerium, copper, iron,
lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, silver, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, sulfite, nitrate and nitrite. It can be uses as determination of aluminum, copper, iron, thorium, titanium and uranium; also, in alkali method and iodometry titration standard. In addition, it uses as the fluorescent indicatoran and complexometric indicator.
Materials and methods (3)
Salicylic acid with properties and synthetic structure as given was acquired from Sigma-Aldrich (>99% immaculateness) and utilized for setting up a stock arrangement of the compound. HPLC review acetonitrile and phosporic corrosive were obtained from Merck (Istanbul). ZVI and hydrogen peroxide were gotten from Hepure (USA) and Merck (Istanbul), separately. The compound structure and a portion of the physical/ecological properties of SA are as given
