Please reflect on what went well this year. What strategies did you use that
helped your students succeed?
This year has been a better year for me, after having cancer last year and being at FMS
for as long as I could for my students I still didnt feel like I did my job. That is very hard
for me since I expect excellence from my students and myself. This year is a different
story, I really feel I have grown as a leader (department head) and a teacher. I have
embraced a lot of things that I hadnt in past years. I utilized small group instruction and
really grew to see the benefits. I also had students work more on ALEKS and saw the
growth the students achieved. I set my room up in a different way than the normal
groups of students, I also had desk in front of mine. I think this year I was pickier about
what material and handouts we used and made sure it truly aligned to the standards. As
a team, we created a lot of different types of activities that included a lot of DOK 3 and 4
type questions, rather than just solving an equation. As a team, we also have utilized the
SC Ready folder for review through packets, warm-ups, games, and more. I also think
that using those types of questions will be beneficial when the students take the SC
Ready in May. After each MAP test I discussed with the students their scores and what I
expect of them in the spring. After winter testing, I talked with the students individually
and stated that if they already met their goal in the winter they wanted to grow 5 points
from the current score. I discussed with the class together that if they were in honors
that everyone should be yellow or green. I discussed the colors (red, orange, yellow, and
green) with the students and what they meant. I encouraged every student to try and
achieve the next color from where they currently were and I pushed the honors and
accelerated students to be either yellow or green but mostly green. I really feel as
though talking with the students about their scores and having those students who
already achieved their goal grow from winter score is very helpful as well.

Please indicate areas of continued focus and growth for next year.
Next year, I would like to take a day to review for MAP testing like I did this year it really
helped my students. I would like to continue to utilize small group instruction with each
class and ALEKS. Focus more on quality rather than quantity through warm-ups, notes,
activities, homework, tests, quizzes and more. As a leader I would like to continue to help
our department grow to be the best we can be for all of our students. On a personal level
I am going to start to work towards my administration degree
