Themaincampus(formallyKaletschCampus),acquiredin1985,iscomposedofaprivatevillawithattached
library,auditorium,andclassroomwing,surroundedbyawoodedpark.In2005theuniversityacquiredan
additionalcampusnearby,addingadministrative,educational,athletic,socialandresidentialcapacity.The
currentcampusspans2hectares(5acres).TheFranklincampusis
residential,andislocatedonahillsideoverlookingthetownofLugano,
intheItalianspeakingcantonofTicino,Switzerland.

FranklinUniversitySwitzerlandhasnineresidencebuildings,sevenin
SorengoandtwoinLugano

Aironeislocatedinanoldhoteldirectlybetweenmaincampus
andNorthCampuswithsinglesanddoubles.Allroomshavetheir
ownbathroomsandsomeofwhichhavekitchenettes.Theground
floorhousestheofficeofStudentLife,andoneofthestudent FranklinUniversitySwitzerland,the
lounges,the"Falcon'sNest". maincampus
Alba,locatedinLugano510minutesfromNorthCampusonthe
waydowntown.
Ciliegi,locateddirectlyacrossviaPonteTresafromAirone.This
isthesmallestresidenceoncampus,inapartmentstyledoubles.
LeonardodaVinci(LDV),locatedonthegroundsofNorth
Campus,thisistheonlyallfreshmanstudentdormitory.
Giardino,nestledbelowtheSorengomonastery,thisresidenceis
mainlymultiples(46bedroomsandasharedkitchen)withsome
triplesforfreshmen.
Girasole,locatedinLugano,hasmostlysingleanddoublerooms
aswellasonetriple.TheAlpineLiving&LearningCommunity

Panera,locatedonthemaincampusgroundsnexttotheGrotto ResidenzaPanera
(oneoftwodininghalls)withapartmentstyletriples.Each
apartmentconsistsoffourrooms:abedroom,bathroom(withbathtub),separatekitchen,andalarge
commonroomwiththreedesksandacouch.ThePaneraLawnisacommonmeetingplaceandhangout
formanystudents,nomatterwhatresidencetheylivein.
ThefinaltwobuildingsaretheasoflateunnamedNewBuildings(AandB)locatedacrossviaPonte
TresafromPanera.NewBuildingAhasfourbedroomapartmentstylehousing,whileNewBuildingB
hastwo,three,four,five,andsixbedroomapartments,someofwhicharetwostories.Allroomsinboth
NewBuildingshavearguablythebiggestkitchensoncampuswithatleastonebathroom(withashower)

Franklin'scurriculumpromotesinternationalawarenessandcriticalthinking,andemphasizesan
interdisciplinaryandliberalartsperspective.ThemajorityofcoursesaretaughtinEnglish,withtheexception
oflanguagecourses,includinganupperlevellanguagecoursesonfilm,cultureandliterature.Studentsmust
alsoachieveproficiencyineitherItalian,French,Spanish,orGerman,throughfulfillinga3yearlanguage
coursesequence.InadditiontothelanguagerequirementatFranklin,acorecurriculumconsistingof
InterculturalCompetencies(humanitiesandarts),InternationalEngagement(politicalscience,historyand
economics)andSocialResponsibility(sciencesandculturalstudies)isattheforefronttothecurriculum.Afull

TheAcademicTravelProgramisanintegratedpartoftheFranklinUniversitySwitzerlandcurriculum.
AcademicTravelisacreditbearingdegreerequirement,andtwoweeksoftraveleachsemesterrepresentan
extensionofthestudentsclasswork.[7]Travelisledbyfacultymembersandrelatestotheacademicexpertise
oftheindividualprofessorandtohisorherknowledgeofagivencountryorarea.

Allstudents,includingsemesterandyearabroadstudents,arerequiredtoparticipateintheAcademicTravel
Program.AcademicTravelisnotonlyagraduationrequirementbutanintegralcomponentofeachsemesterof
study.ThegraduationrequirementforAcademicTravelisfulfilledbyparticipatinginsixtravelprograms.
StudentsusuallyfulfilltherequirementbyparticipatingeachsemesteroftheirfirstthreeyearsatFranklin.
StudentswhoenterwithSophomorestandingmustparticipateeachsemesterinwhichtheyareenrolledexcept
theirsenioryear.

StudentlifeatFranklinconsistsofanemphasisonindependenttravelwithinSwitzerlandandGreaterEurope,
andofstudentassociations,residentiallife,andinteractionwithSwissItaliancultureinLugano.

Athletics
FranklinUniversitySwitzerlandoffersstudentsawidevarietyofsportsandfitnessprograms,aswellas
activitiestopromoteahealthylifestyle.SomeoncampussportsfacilitiesincludetheToneAthleticCenter,two
volleyballcourts,abasketballcourtandasoccerfield.OrganizedathleticactivitiesincludeMen'sandWomen's
Soccer,Men'sandWomen'sBasketball,andLuganoStreetDance.Studentsarealsoencouragedtostartathletic
programs.PaststudentledactivitieshaveincludedFieldHockey,Yoga,Crossfit,andSelfDefense.

Since20002001,withanexceptionofabyeyearin20012002,Franklin'smen'ssoccerteamhascompetedin
theNationalSwissDivision(5thLeague).TheteamcompeteswithotherclubsintheleaguefromtheCantonof
Ticino.FranklinUniversitySwitzerlandiscurrentlythereserveteamforthelocalclubFCParadiso,makingit
FranklinFCParadisoII.InSpring2012theteamwonitsfourthFairPlayaward.Theteamtrainstwiceaweek
andcompetesontheweekendsinboththefallandspringsemestershomegamesareplayedonFridaynights.
TheplayershaveamidseasonbreakfromDecembertoFebruary.Duringthisperiodtheschoolhostsanindoor
soccertournamentopentoallFranklinstudents,facultyandstaff.

Notableprofessors
PaoloBennardoandGiovanniSacheli,membersofSearcusSwissSagl,heldthesearchmarketingcourse
in2016.Theprojectwasdividedintotwothematicareas,aspartofatestforanewmediaorientedtraining
coursefocusingonwebmarketingandeCommerce.Thefirstpartfocusedonthetheoryandpracticeof
SEO.ThesecondpartwasdevotedtoPPCwithGoogleAdWords.
