COMPUTER SYSTEMS USE AGREEMENT

(COVERS BOTH INTERNET ACCESS AND USE OF ELECTRONIC MAIL)

PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING

General

Computers, a computer network, including Internet access and an e-mail system (referred to
collectively as "the computer systems") are available to students, teachers and other staff
members in the Norwich Public Schools. Our goal in providing these resources to teachers and
students is to promote educational excellence in schools by facilitating resource sharing,
innovation and communication.

With access to the Internet, material may be available to students that may not be considered to
be of educational value in the context of the school setting. The Norwich Public Schools have
taken precautions to restrict access to inappropriate materials.

Computer Systems Terms and Conditions of Use

1. Acceptable Use - The use of the districts computer systems must be in support of
education and research, and consistent with the educational objectives of the Norwich
Public Schools. Transmission of information in violation of any national, state or local
law or regulation is prohibited.

2. Privileges - The use of the computer systems is a privilege, and inappropriate use will
result in a cancellation of those privileges. Misuse of the computer systems, or violations
of these policies and regulations, may result in loss of access to such computer systems as
well as other disciplinary action, including suspension and/or expulsion, depending on
the specific conduct.

3. Student Conduct - Students are permitted to use the districts computer systems for
legitimate educational purposes. Personal use of district computer systems is expressly
prohibited. Conduct which constitutes inappropriate use includes, but is not limited to
the following:

or the confidentiality of students;

interferes with the districts educational programs;

pornography, or is harmful to minors;

the Internet for non-educational purposes;

In addition, as noted above, if a particular behavior or activity is generally

prohibited by law, by Board policy or by school rules or regulations, use of these
computer systems for the purpose of carrying out such behavior or activity is also
prohibited.

4. Privacy - Neither transmissions on the Internet nor electronic mail (e-mail) are private.
Those who operate the computer systems have access to all the transmissions and mail,
both incoming and outgoing. Improper use of the computer systems will be reported and
material relating to or in support of illegal activities may be reported to the authorities.

5. Security - Security on any computer system is a high priority, especially when the system
involves many users. Do not use another individual's account without written permission
from that individual and the supervising teacher. Attempts to log on as a system
administrator will result in cancellation of user privileges. Any user identified as a
security risk or having a history of problems with other computer systems may be denied
access to the Internet.

6. Vandalism - Vandalism will result in cancellation or privileges. Vandalism is defined as
