Balis Kerobokan Prison severely overcrowded, 25 prisoners relocated to Bangli
With some serious overcrowding at
Balis notorious Kerobokan Prison, a
total of 25 inmates were made to check
out of the Hotel K and were transferred
to another prison on the island.
The prisoners were relocated to Bangli
Narcotics Prison.
All 25 are serving time over drug cases,
confirmed Bali prison warden, Tonny
Nainggolan.

The transfer of the prisoners is
because of a an overcapacity issue.
Now 1,318 people are incarcerated,
when the actual capacity is 296,
Nainggolan said, as quoted by Tribun
Bali.
So the reduction of 25 prisoners still
very much leaves Kerobokan at
overcapacity. The prison has been
dangerously overcrowded and
understaffed for years. The government

security concern given its location right
in the middle of town and weve seen

Bangli was selected to receive the 25
prisoners last week because it is not yet
full.
The prison in Bangli isnt yet
considered overcapacity, so we moved
the 25 prisoners there. Bangli is for
narcotics prisoners, Nainggolan added.
The 25 prisoners transferred were all

Australian retirees death: Blood found from two different people at Sanur villa crime scene
Crime scene investigators have
found blood belonging to two
different people at the Sanur villa
rental where an Australian retiree
was found dead earlier this week,
meaning we have our answer now
whether it was foul play, say police.
The bloodied body of Perth man,
Stephen Richardson, was found on
Monday afternoon after his friend
scaled the mans villa wall to check on
him, since he hadnt heard from him in
several days.
Police previously said they werent yet
sure if the 63-year-old had been
murdered, or if his death was due to
being drunk and falling and hitting
glass. It had also been alleged that the
Aussie had a history of heart disease.
But now forensics officers say blood
from the crime scene are from two
different people.
Crime scene investigators have found
blood belonging to two different people at
the Sanur villa rental where an Australian
retiree was found dead earlier this week,
meaning we have our answer now whether it
was foul play, say police.
There are two types of blood, Head of
Denpasar Polices forensic lab,
Koesnadi, told AAP on Wednesday.
It means, there is blood from the victim
and from a perpetrator.
Blood samples have reportedly been
sent to Jakarta for DNA testing.

Indonesian government gives tax office access to accounts at financial institutions
JAKARTA (Reuters) Indonesian
President Joko Widodo has signed a
new regulation giving tax authorities
access to information on accounts held
at financial institutions, including banks.
The regulation was signed last week as
part of Indonesias pledge to join the
Automatic Exchange of Information
(AEOI) initiative led by the Organization
for Economic Cooperation and
Development, a rich-country think-tank.
The government considered it very
urgent for the tax office to get wider
access to financial data, the regulation
said. Failure to meet AEOI
commitments could lead to significant
losses and disrupt stability in Southeast
Asias largest economy, it said.
The president can issue a government
regulation in times of emergency. It
becomes effective immediately,
although parliament must debate and
vote on the regulation during its next
sitting, which starts on Thursday, to turn
it into law. If parliament votes it down,
the regulation is repealed.
The regulation calls on
banks, insurance
companies and other
financial institutions to
report client information
including cash balances
and financial gains from
assets as required
under international
standards, and for the tax
office to share the
information with
authorities in other
countries.
The tax office can also ask financial
institutions to share information for tax
collection purposes.
Previously, under laws protecting banks
and other financial institutions, the tax
office had to file a request to the
Financial Services Authority (OJK) to
get access to a taxpayers accounts,
and only for the purpose of an
investigation.
The process could take more than six
months and in some cases allow
people to cover up possible evidence of
tax avoidance, tax officers have said.
Bahana Sekuritas said there was a risk
the move could hamper the economy
if people pull money out of financial
firms, although Head of Research Harry
Su said tax reform would benefit
Indonesia over the longer term.

big impact on banking clients.

Indonesia, then we are at risk. But
because this is affecting many other

The new regulation follows an amnesty
campaign encouraging taxpayers to
declare hidden wealth. Almost 1 million
taxpayers joined the program, declaring

amnesty. But now that weve had the
amnesty, we are, BCAs Sumual said.
Widodos flagship nine-month amnesty
ended in March. It generated 135 trillion
rupiah ($10.16 billion) of additional tax
revenue to the government, equivalent
to 1.08 percent of GDP.
The largest sums amnesty participants
had concealed offshore were held in
Singapore, the British Virgin Islands,
Hong Kong and the Cayman Islands.
All of those jurisdictions are signatories
to the AEOI, along with about 100
others.

Five Young Thieves Now Under Arrest as Denpasar Police Bust Roaming Gangs Armed Thieves
Five robbers who have long been
sought by the West Denpasar police
precinct are now in custody after being
arrested on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
The five thieves, most of whom
underage, committed traumatic armed
robberies of victims using knives to
threaten their victims.
Beritabali.com identified the thieves as
Wahyu Kambing alias MWH (17) from
Tegal Wangi, Sesetan; DPD alias Dandi
(16) from Pesanggaran, South
Denpasar; SR alias Ipung (14) a
student from Tukad Buaji, Gang Mekar
Sari, South Denpasar; MOS alias
Marcel (17) from Jalan Padma Utara,
Legian Tengah; and MAS alias Aldi
alias Adi (16) from Jimbaran, South
Kuta.
Police say the five would travel around
South Bali late at night on motorcycle
threatening and robbing their victims,
often attacking their victims as gangs.
The arrest of the five men happened
after police from the South Denpasar
precinct stopped a motorcycle at 1:00
am on Sunday, May 7, 2017, in front of
the District Head Office (Camat) in
Sesetan.
Wahyu Kambing was driving a Honda
Beat motorcycle at the time that was
unable to show proper registration
papers. Following interrogation, the
man admitted the bike was stolen and
that the police plate had been falsified.
Police then raided Kambing rented
room in Tegal Wangi, Sesetan where
they found another stolen motorcycle.

Police discovered the motorcycles had
been stolen with the help of four
accomplices working the Teuku Umar
area of West Denpasar.
Based on information provided by
Kambing police were soon able to
arrest the remaining 4 thieves who
were spending the night at Pogok Field
in Sesetan.
Police confiscated two more stolen
motorcycles, a knife, a Japanese sword
and other weapons.
The thieves and the evidence
confiscated by the police are being
processed by the West Denpasar
Police Precinct.
