finance/Investeringsanalys and awards 7,5 ECTS

2 Decision and approval
This course is established by 2015-09-04. The course
syllabus was revised by Head of Department of
Industrial Economics and applies from 2016-01-01.
3 Objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students to
develop theories and models for assessing real and
financial investments in different contexts. A further
aim is to provide students with knowledge about
the role of financial markets and of the nature of the
relationship between companies and financial
markets.
4 Content
The course deals with theories and models for the
analysis of real and financial investments, portfolio
choice theory, options theory, theories of capital
structure analysis, and the contract theory approach
to the existence of companies.
5 Aims and learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
On completion of the course, the students shall
demonstrate understanding of the relationship
between the investment decision of a company and
the workings of financial markets
demonstrate understanding of the pros and cons
of different investment assessment models and their
links to the objective function of a company
demonstrate understanding of the theories and
models of a financing decision of a company
demonstrate understanding of theories and
models of risk management of real and financial
Competence and skills
On completion of the course, the students shall be
able to
use different methods to determine the value of
real and financial investments
communicate the knowledge acquired on the
course in English
write academic reports based on the course

Judgement and approach
On completion of the course, the students shall
demonstrate insight into the relationship between
real problems encountered by enterprises and
problems based on models, and into the potential
and limitations of trying to model real financial
problems
6 Learning and teaching
The teaching consists of online lectures and learning
activities such as study of the required reading and
work on assignments.
The teaching language is English.

8 Course evaluation

9 Prerequisites
Bachelor degree in science in engineering including
a degree project of 7,5 hp. 15 hp mathematics on
basic/advanced level, 5 hp industrial economics and
organization, business administration or the
equivalent, English B and 2 years of work
experience.
