1 INTRODUCTION
About these
instructions These instructions describe the procedure for assembling,
commissioning and maintaining the Fife-Symat70G. They
also provide important information relating to proper usage.
Proper usage The Fife-Symat 70G is a compact offset pivot guide system
(OPG for short) designed for installation in web processing
machinery. A Fife-Tidland GmbH web guide controller is
required for operation of the offset pivot guide system.
The Fife-Symat 70G must only be used for its intended pur-
pose and must be kept in flawless technical condition. Fife-
Tidland GmbH should always be consulted before the Fife-
Symat 70B is put into operation.

Use of the offset pivot guide system should not present any
hazards as defined by EU Directive 2006/42/EC.
Improper usage Standing or leaning on the Fife-Symat 70G offset pivot guide
system is not permitted.

Modifications to the offset pivot guide system are not
permitted. Any modifications may invalidate claims made
under the warranty.

Operating principle Figure 1.2 shows a web course control system. The Fife-
Symat 70G is aligned parallel to the rollers of the customer's
system. The sensors (3) monitor the web position. When the
material web leaves the target position, the sensors generate
a signal. The web guide controller (2) records this signal and
activates the drive unit, which continues realigning the offset
pivot guide (1) until the web position has been corrected. The
rotational movement is around an axis positioned perpendi-
cular to the assembly frame (6) on the outer edge of the
infeed roller.
Note:
In Figure 1.2. the drive unit required to control the material
web is concealed by the material web.

2 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Important information Flawless and reliable operation of the offset pivot guide sys-
tem is dependent upon the Fife-Symat 70G:

Mechanical fastening The offset pivot guide system is secured using four M10
DIN 7984 or DIN 912/ISO 4762 bolts. The appropriate
bolts for the mounting holes provided should be selected.
The offset pivot guide system must be secured at the
connector elements shown in the dimensional diagram.
The cover must first be removed in order to access the
fastening hole underneath it. Replace the cover once the
offset pivot guide system has been secured.
WARNING:
All assembly tasks on the offset pivot guide system must
be performed when there is no electrical power in the system.
Power supply The Fife-Symat 70G does not have a mains power switch. The
device is connected to the power supply via a Fife-Tidland
GmbH web guide controller.
WARNING:
The offset pivot guide system does not have an 'EMERGENCY
STOP' switch.
Before commissioning The following assembly and electrical connection tasks must
be performed before commissioning:
Once all the assembly and connection work has been checked
and approved, the Fife-Symat 70G offset pivot guide system
can be commissioned.
5 OPERATION
Safety instructions
WARNING:
There is a risk of burning from the motor surface and
associated components.
WARNING:
The rollers may continue to run for some time after the
device is switched off. There is a risk of entanglement at the
rollers.
Noise The device should not make any excessive noise if kept in
proper technical condition and used in normal operation.

7 MAINTENANCE
Rollers & roller bearings To replace the roller, roller bearing, trunnion or slip, first
remove the rectangular plug. Loosening the setscrew will
then make it possible to loosen the slip and remove the trun-
nion and the roller. Rollers and roller bearings are customer-
specific. Obtain the part numbers from the service depart-
ment if replacing these parts.

Ball bushings When the drive shaft has been removed and the retaining cir-
clips (20, Figure7.5) have been taken off, the ball bushings
can be removed from the mounting base. They should then
be lubricated with EP grease along with the hollow areas.
Carbon brushes The carbon brushes for the DC motor can be rough-ground
to suit the radius of the commutator.
When replacing the carbon brushes, ensure that they have
the correct radius; otherwise, the carbon brushes will wear
more quickly and motor performance will be impaired.
