Dear Judges:

My name is Lizbeth Medina and I have just completed the Senior Year portion of my Graduation
Project. Throughout the past two years, I have learned about the effects of college tuition today.
In addition to learning more about my topic, I learned more about myself. I learned that I am able
to rise to the challenge of difficult assignments and meet important deadlines.

I have attended Garinger for four years. During my junior year I became aware of the importance
of college. I became interested in Queens University but because it is a private school the tuition
is almost 3 times as much as it would be at a public university. I began applying for scholarships
in order to cover all major costs. I believed that college tuition should be lowered in order to
allow for more people to receive a higher education without going into debt, be able to increase
employment rates, and to improve todays economy.
I chose this type of service because I wanted to inform others about how to afford college

and volunteering at a high demand hospital seemed best. My idea for this project was to state

ways in which college is necessary and why it should be offered at a cheaper cost. After

informing my audience I thought about ways I could incorporate my volunteer work with my

project and I did. What I did was I tied why college is important for success by interviewing
nurses on their opinion of it. I asked the nurses simple questions such as what they would advise

college freshman and high school seniors about saving money.

When completing my senior exit I learned how college expenses work. I learned how to

shape myself into an ideal applicant as well as how to budget money for college. Overall I

understood that even though college is expensive there are ways to save money to go because it

is important. Without seeking a higher education people will be trapped under minimum wage

and welfare. Knowing this could help me in the future because now I will definitely be going to

college in order to live sustainably. I now understand what all is incorporated when counting

tuition and am able to comprehend the differences between loans. Conducting this research has

made me aware of how the government handles education.

The Graduation Project has had a major effect on my life because it has forced me to plan ahead,

become organized and work towards deadlines. I think that this will help me be more successful

for the rest of my life.

that you now understand the importance of college and why tuition should be lowered.
