7 Levels of Investors:
Each level characterizes an investors attitude toward money and
spending.
Level 0: Nothing to Invest - No money to invest. Many rich
people fall into this category.
Level 1: The Borrowers - Having debt attached to everything they
own -properties, business, etc. Theyre either slaves to their credits cards
or use borrowed money to spend or invest. Habit of borrowing and
spending debt solves problem thinking.
Level 2: The Savers - Often prefer low-risk and low-return
investments, and believe in paying in cash for fear of being in debt. They
often save to spend rather than to invest. Even when shown savings give
a negative return (after inflation and taxes) they are still not willing to take
on much risk.
Level 3: Smart Investors - With solid education and resources to
invest but lack financial literacy to understand how investing could work for them.
Level 3-A: The I Cant Be Bothered Group - They have convinced
themselves they dont understand money and never will. They leave the money decisions
to other people. They say, At least I have a retirement plan. Theyll look at how their
investment did only when they retire.
10
Level 3-B: The Cynic - They often sound smart, speak with authority, they talk big
deals but are never in them. They look for stocks, and if favorable they buy. The problem is they
buy late because if you get your news from the newspaper -it is too late. The truly smart
investors have bought way before it makes the news. The cynic doesnt know that. They think
theyre in the game, but they are really only a spectator. When bad news comes, they criticize.
The worst part is they infect people around them with their deep fear, disguised as intelligence
They have all the reasons why investment will not work, but cant tell you how it could work. They
sound correct because they are successful in their chosen field. Cynicism is the combination of fear and ignorance.
Level 3-C: The Gambler - While the Cynic is overly cautious, this group is not
cautious enough. They look at the stock market or any investment market as a gamble. They
want to act like the Big Boys, so they fake it until they make it or lose it all. The latter is most
probable. They are searching for the secret to investing. Instead of long-term diligence study
and understanding, they are always looking for new ways to invest, they seek shortcuts. They
think that all they need is the one big deal and then theyll be on easy street. Society calls them
an incurable gambler. Deep down, they are simply lazy when it comes to investing money.
Level 4: Long Term Investors - Understand the fundamentals of
finance and are actively involved in their own investment decisions.
Level 5: Sophisticated Investors - Have a track record of failures
and successes, but pack enough wisdom and drive to keep investing.
Level 6: Capitalists - Become excellent businessman using other
peoples money, talent and time to get rich.
You should work your way up to Level 4 and gain a working knowledge
of financial concepts to make the shift!
