Dhul – Hijjah ( The Month of Hajj)

The month of Dhul - Hijjah is the last month of the Islamic calendar. Literally it means “The month of Hajj”. Obviously
this name of the month indicates that the great annual worship of “Hajj” is performed in this time.
Allah (swt) says in the Holy Quran translated in Surah Al-Hajj (22) Ayah (27):
“ And proclaim to mankind Al-Hajj (Pilgrimage). They will come to you
on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and
distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj).
The Prophet (pbuh) has said regarding Hajj:
“ He who performs Hajj for Allah’s Pleasure and avoids all lewdness
and sins will return after Hajj free from all sins as he was the day his
mother gave birth to him. (Bukhari and Muslim).
So who should go on Hajj? Allah (swt) does not wish to make things
difficult for the Muslims. Apart from the duty of Hajj being Fard
(compulsory) only once in a lifetime, there are certain other Conditions
that have to be met for one to be eligible and they are:
1. To be Muslim. 2. To have reached puberty. 3. To be sane.
4. To be free (not a slave). 5. To have financial means.
6. To possess the physical means. 7. To have a Mahram (for women).
Once the above has been established and the person is eligible for Hajj
he/she must perform the Pillars (Arkan) of Hajj. These arkan are the
rites that are compulsory for the validity and completion of the Hajj.
They are:
1. Ihraam (with Niyah). 2. Standing at Arafat. 3. Tawaaf al Ifadah.
4. Sa’ee.

Fatawa’s For Hajj

FATAWA 1:
I want to make Hajj but my husband prevents me?
Question: I am an elderly wealthy woman. I presented the idea of making Hajj to my husband several times but he
refused without having a reason. My older brother is going on Hajj. Should I make Hajj with him even if my husband
does not permit me or should I abandon the Hajj and stay in my land out of obedience to my husband?
Response: Since Hajj is an obligation that must be met at its first opportunity and since that woman has the
responsibility, ability and male relative to go with her, it is obligatory upon her to go immediately to Hajj and it is
forbidden for her husband to prevent her without any reason.
It is permissible for her, in the state just described, to make Hajj with her brother even if her husband does not agree to
it because it is an individual obligation like the prayer and fasting, and the right of Allah (swt) takes precedence. That
husband has no right to prevent his wife from fulfilling her obligation of Hajj and Allah (swt) is the guide to the straight
path.
FATAWA 2:
Is the Farewell Tawaaf obligatory or not and can I purchase anything after it?
Question: Is the Farewell Tawaaf of the Kabah obligatory for the one making Umrah? Is it allowed to purchase
something in Makkah after making the Farewell Tawaaf regardless of whether that was for the Hajj or Umrah?
Response: The Farewell Tawaaf (Tawaaf ul Wadaa) is not obligatory for the Umrah. However it is best to do it. If
though someone leaves and did not perform it, then there is no harm. However, for the Hajj, it is obligatory, because the
Prophet (pbuh) said “ none of you should leave until he performs the last circumambulation around the house” (Sahih
Muslim). These words were directed to the pilgrims.
The person may purchase whatever he needs to purchase afterwards. He may even purchase items for business purposes.
But the time interval must be short. If he spends a lengthy time in Makkah after performing the Farewell Tawaaf, he
must then repeat his Tawaaf ul Wadaa. If according to custom, his stay afterwards was not lengthy, he does not have to
repeat the circumambulation ( Tawaaf ul Wadaa) in any case.
FATAWA 3:
Ruling Concerning changing the clothing of Ihram
Question: Can a person change the clothing of Ihram in order to wash them?
Response: There is no harm in washing the clothes during the Ihram. There is no harm in ex-
changing them for others and putting on new or washed Ihram clothes.
All three Fatawa’s are by Sheikh Ibn Baz. Also known as Abu Abdullah Abdul Aziz Ibn
Abdurrahman Al Baz.

FACTS ABOUT HAJJ

INTENTION (NIYAH) / TALBIYAH
According to Hadith narrated by Bukhari, The Prophet (pbuh) used to recite the Talbiyah by saying:

“LABBAYK ALLAHUMMA HAJJAN”

INTENTION (NIYAH)

“ Labbayk Alaahumma Labbayk”

“Labbayka laa shareeka Laka Labbayk”
“Innal-hamda wan-ni’mata laka wal mulk”
“Laa shareeka Lak”
TALBIYAH **Hajj is one of the 5 Pillars of Islam**
Meaning:
Here I am Oh Allah, here I am. You have no partner, here I am. Surely all praise, grace and dominion are Yours and You
have no partner.
Before uttering the niyah one is not considered a Muhrim (in state of Ihram) even if he wears the clothes of Ihram.
Only after uttering the niyah does one become a muhrim.

LOCATION
Knowing distances from different holy sites can
assist in making a decision about what mode of
transport is best for you.
Makkah (Haram) to Mina = 8km, 2 hours walk
Mina to Arafat = 14km, 3.5 hours walk
Arafat to Muzdalifah = 9.5kms, 2.5 hours walk
Muzdalifah to Mina = 6km, 2 hours walk

ARAFAT
Importance of Arafat.
All pilgrims must be on Arafat on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah.
Without this rite, Hajj is not valid. This rite cannot be done on
any other day nor is there an expiation if it is missed.
The Prophet (pbuh) was asked about Hajj and he said: “ The Hajj
is Arafat”.

Time Management: An essential tool for parenting. YUMMY RECIPES
What inspired me to talk about this topic is that I had an episode with my son this week, lets just Ricotta and Rocket Cannelloni

we manage them better.
As dedicated Muslim parents we have a vision. We have a clear idea of how we want to raise our
children, what our values are and how we would like them to turn out. We deeply desire that our
children become sincere Muslims.
Allah (swt) says: “And those who strive in Our cause we will certainly guide them to Our paths for

DID YOU KNOW?

Cholesterol is a fatty, wax – like substance found in the body and is needed for every day body functions. The problem occurs when you
have too much, particularly LDL cholesterol so called (bad’ cholesterol). LDL cholesterol can build up in your blood vessels, interrupt
the blood flow to your heart and increase your risk of heart attack.
Combing a healthy diet, with regular physical activity and maintaining an ideal body weight, will assist in
lowering LDL cholesterol. Restricting saturated fat also helps reduce LDL cholesterol levels.
Research shows that consuming a low fat diet which includes plenty of fruits and vegetables and three serves
of low fat dairy each day can lower your total cholesterol by 7% and LDL cholesterol by 9% This means your
risk of long-term coronary heart disease can be reduced.
