1. What is meant by Skin depth of a conductor? How is related to the attenuation constant?

4. Define the term intrinsic impedance of the free space with its value. [CO5]

5. Write the integral form of Maxwells equations and identify with the proper experimental

6. Are conduction and displace currents in phase for time harmonic fields? Explain. [CO4]

PART-B: Answer any two of the following questions (2 X 7 = 14M)

1. (a) Explain Faradays law of electromagnetic induction and derive the expression for

(b) What do you mean by displacement currents? Write down the expression for the total

2. (a) Derive the Electromagnetic (EM) wave equation starting from Maxwells equation for
free space. [CO5] (5)
(b) Define Poynting vector. What is its unit? [CO5] (2)

3. (a) Determine the force per unit length between two parallel, long, thin conducting strips of
equal width w. The strips are at a distance d apart and carry currents I1 and I2 in
opposite directions as in fig. [CO3] (5)
