First-aid box contents

First-aid boxes, at the rate of not less than 1 (one) box for 150 (one hundred and fifty)
workers or part thereof, distinctively marked with a red cross on a white ground should
be available and readily accessible during working hours.

a. Where the number of workers employed exceeds 19 (nineteen) but does not exceed
50 (fifty), the first-aid box shall contain the following equipment:

(i) 12 small sterilized dressings;


(ii) 6 medium size sterilized dressings;
(iii) 6 large size sterilized dressings;
(iv) 6 large size sterilized burn dressings;
(v) 6 ( oz.) packets sterilized cotton wool;
(vi) 1 roll of adhesive plaster
(vii) 1 (2 oz.) bottle containing a 2 per cent alcoholic solution of iodine;
(viii) 1 (2 oz.) bottle of sal-volatile having the dose and mode of administration indicated
on the label;
(ix) 1 (1 oz.) bottle of potassium permanganate crystals;
(x) 1 snake bite lancet;
(xi) 1 pair scissors; and
(xii) 1 copy of the first-aid leaflet approved by the Chief Inspector of Factories.

b. Where the number of workers employed exceeds 50 (fifty), the requirements for the
first-aid box are doubled in number for items (i) to (vi), doubled in quantity for items (vii)
to (ix), remain the same for items (x) to (xii). Additionally there is a requirement to
provide:

(i) 12 roller bandages 4 inches wide;


(ii) 12 roller bandages 2 inches wide;
(iii) 6 triangular bandages;
(iv) 2 packets of safety pins;
(v) A supply of suitable splints; and
(vi) 1 tourniquet.

The first-aid box must be kept in charge of a responsible person who needs to always be
readily available during the working hours of the establishment. The person in-charge of
the first-aid box is trained in First Aid treatment.
