Badminton Week 2 Coaching Session

Coach: Jamie Petrovich

Equipment: 1x Net, 5x Rackets, 10xShuttle, 2xHula-hoops, 2x Small

Time: 15minutes

Warm up: Keep the shuttle up!

Get one racket each and one shuttle.


Start by holding the racket at its t-piece with thumb and forefinger
on the frame of racket head.
Aim is to keep the shuttle in the air with back of hand leading and
thumb grip.
Have a contest with the pairs and see how many hits you can make
without the shuttle touching the ground.

Main game: Backhand serve accuracy competition.

Start with players lined up behind each other with racket and shuttle
in hand.
Aim of this game is to serve a backhand serve into the hula-hoop on
the other side of the net.
After you serve the shuttle you need to run around the net and pick
it up and repeat.
Do this twice for every player.
Progress to a competition.
Add another hula hoop and evenly space them opposite the net.
Split up players and aim is to serve as many shuttles into the hula-
hoop in 30 seconds.
Count the points and see who was the winner.
Repeat until best out of three games.

Cool down:
Light jog around the court.
Add high knees.
Add bottom flicks.
Form a semi-circle in front of the coach, summarise the lesson and
ask some questions to assimilate todays skills learnt.

Use very short grip (t piece of racket)
Thumb grip
Hit from hand
Racket pointing down

Ready position
Chasse
On your toes
Lunge

Progressions:
Warm up:
Be creative, stand on one foot, both knees bent. Try multiple
positions.
Main game:
Extend the hula hoop to test serve accuracy
Make the hula-hoop a small box to progress accuracy of back hand
serve.
