the fax, converts it in a TIFF format and sends this TIFF by email as an
attachment. As a result, you receive all your fax in your standard
mailbox. The Email contains theses information:
The phone number of the sender,
The name of the recipient,
Date and time of the message,
A subject: A fax has been sent from <sender number> to
<recipient number>,
A body: a standard message that can be configured,
A TIFF image of the fax as attached document.
If no fax is detected, your phone will ring and the phone call will be
established.

Benefits As fax is stored into a dedicated mailbox, the confidentiality is

guaranteed. Fax can be forwarded, stored, organized. Faxes are no

7.1. Prerequisites

Introduction If during the configuration wizard, the VoIP connection mode has been selected, the
Foreign gatekeeper (VoIP/T38 gateway) has been automatically created.
If not, below is described the process to create this object in the QPortal administration
interface.

Procedure The table below describe the procedure to create a Foreign Gatekeeper (FGK) in the
QPortal Administration interface:
Steps Description
1 Connect to QPortal and click on Object > Foreign Gatekeeper > ADD
record. Then, fill in the Foreign Gatekeeper settings:

Field Name Description

If the QuesCom Gateway does NOT register: just
provide a nickname for the soft switch to be
displayed into the web interface.
If the QuesCom Gateway registers to the Foreign
Gatekeeper: enter the ID that the QuesCom
Gateway should use in the registration request.
Gatekeeper Select the VOIP protocol supported by the FGK i.e.
Type either H.323 or SIP.
Name Provide a name to the external FGK. This name will just
be used in the web interface to display the FGK.
IP Address Enter the soft switch IP address.
VOIP Profile A VOIP Profile has to be attached to the FGK:
REGISTER_SIP: To be used when the QuesCom
Gateway register to theFGK.
NOOPT_SIP To be used when the QuesCom
Gateway does not register to the external SIP FGK.
The FGK is authenticated based on its IP address
(proxy to proxy connection type).
RAS_H323 To be used when the QuesCom
Gateway register to an H.323 FGK.
NO_RAS_H323: To be used when the QuesCom
Gateway does not register to a H.323 FGK. The
VOIP Trunk is authenticated based on its IP address

10.2. IPBX configuration example for UCME and UC500

Introduction This example describes a configuration for Cisco voice systems:

Cisco Unified Communication Manager Express (UCME) and
Cisco Unified Communication 500 Series (UC500).
This enables T.38 support for Fax communication with QuesCom Gateways.

In this example, we use a specific numbers DDI number on the Cisco voice system and
dedicate them as a fax number for a specific user.
We use a range of DDI numbers that we translate to extensions 250x. (2500 to 2509).
For example: E.164 number 015454202 has to be translated to 2502, and so on.

Cisco In the Cisco voice system global configuration, add :

configuration

Add also the following dial-peer to route the voice and fax calls toward the QuesCom
Gateway:

Note: We need the incoming called-number . command so that calls from QuesCom
(for outbound fax for example) hit this dial-peer to receive the appropriate service to get
across the packet network (fax protocol T.38).

QuesCom T.38 Fax To Email feature:

configuration
Define QuesCom services as described in the section 7.3 above, and
set the Called Prefix Number to 250 in the Service Form, section Origin, and
Assign Caller IDs to Users for each fax number (ex: 2502) and enable fax service for
each user. See section 5.2 above. The fax will be delivered to the e-mail address
configured for this user.
Print to T.38 Fax feature:
Define QuesCom services as described in the section 7.4 above.
The destination device must be the Cisco voice system.

10.4. PBX configuration tips when the QuesCom Gateway is connected to the PBX
using a dedicated ISDN line

Call/Fax flow Below, a diagram of the voice and fax call flow when the QuesCom Gateway is
description connected to the PBX using a dedicated ISDN PRI or BRI line.
The fax or voice call is initiated from the PSTN network and received by the corporate
PBX.
The PBX must be configured to redirect to the QuesCom Gateway all calls to DDI
numbers for which fax feature is to be supported.
For a fax (orange flow):
the QuesCom Gateway accepts the call and detects calling fax machine,
receives the fax and sends the acknowledgment to the fax sender,
generates a TIFF image and attaches it to an Email,
sends the email to the SMTP server, with the recipients email address as destination,
The email will be received on the user workstation using the standard email
client.
For a voice call (green flow) :
The QuesCom Gateway accepts the call and determine that it is not originated by a
fax machine,
Redirects the voice call to the PBX,
The call will be handled normally by the PBX (terminated to legacy phone
3333 in the schema).

10.5. IPBX configuration tips to support T38 Voice Fax and T38 Fax to Email

Call/Fax flow Below, a diagram of the fax flow when the QuesCom Gateway is connected to an IPBX.
description
The fax is initiated from the PSTN network using the standard T.30 protocol. The IPBX
converts it to T.38 and routes fax to the QuesCom Gateway.
The IPBX must be configured to redirect T.38 faxes to the QuesCom Gateway (Orange
flow):
the QuesCom Gateway detects the fax,
receives the fax and sends the acknowledgment,
generates a TIFF image and attach the TIFF image to an Email,
sends the email to the SMTP server with the email address of the
recipient in the To field.
The email will be received on the user workstation.
