JobPostingAnalysis

The job of teacher specialist for special education programs seems to be mainly a

communications position. It would involve researching the latest methods and best practices in

special education and then teaching those practices to teacher and administrators in the school

district through meetings, professional development programs, and assistance in the classrooms.

It would also involve communicating education practices in layman terms to parents of students

utilizing special education programs and helping with IEP meetings.

If I were to apply for this position, I would put emphasis on my ability to uniquely relate to

family members who have students with special needs. By having 5 children with multiple

disabilities myself, I have an unique level of empathy of what is needed to help these very

special students. I also have ten years of teaching experience where I worked to translate

difficult concepts in chemistry and physics to high school students in a way that they could

understand them. Im skilled and well practiced in researching complex topics and

communicating them back in a way that is easy for others to understand and enjoy developing

highly engaging presentations. Im also a peacemaker at heart and have experience in helping

others feel comfortable during uncomfortable situations. This combination of skills would make

me the perfect candidate for a teacher specialist position.
