DAY 1
STAND FOR GOD!

BIBLE PASSAGES
Genesis 13; Genesis 6:59
LESSON FOCUS
Just like Noah, we can rely on God to help us stand for Him.
LIFELINE VERSE
Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13
ANIMAL PAL FUN PHRASE
Hydro the Whale reminds us theres a whale of a problem

INTRODUCE IT! (large group)

1.
WELCOME
Introduce your team.
Explain the concept of Adventure Week (AW) Ocean Commotion.
2. EXPLAIN the Huddle Group concept; team name, etc.
3. GET TO KNOW YOUR KIDS: Beach Ball Blast
Throw the ball to different people in the room and ask the following questions.
What school do you go to?
When is your birthday?
How did you find out about AW?
What is your favorite snack?
Can you say the pledge to the American flag?
Will you sing God Bless America?
What is your favorite kind of pet?
Use Huddle Group time to get to know the kids. Go around your Huddle Group. The first person
is to say his/her name. The next person is to say his name and the name of the first person. The
third person will introduce himself and repeat the names of the first and second students.
Continue in like manner until everyone has been introduced (multiple times).
Have each student share a recent water experience with the group.
4. PREVIEW what we are going to learn today. See posters for Hydro and Key
Verse. The phrase about a whale of a problem is good and so is the key verse.
Work these in to your presentation.
Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Day 1: Grades 3-4

5. INTRODUCE the Bible passage with questions.
Ask if anyone has been to the beach lately.
Ask what are some fun water activities to do.
Can you think of a time when water isnt so much fun? (hurricane, flood,
water leak in house)
Ask if they know any examples of water-related Bible lessons. (water to wine,
woman at the well, baptism, parting of Red Sea, the Flood)

TEACH IT! (Bible Lesson Room)

[The Bible lesson will be taught in a large room by grade. See schedule for time and
location. The information below is for use for general discussion, Huddle Groups, crafts
and review questions.]

LEADER BIBLE BACKGROUND

1. Review the creation account in Genesis 12 and what happened each day.
2. See description of The Days of Creation.
3. Talk about how perfect the world was before sin entered in.
4. Discuss how sin entered this perfect world and changed it forever. Everything
began to die and deteriorate, including Adam and Eve. As punishment, they were
forced out of the Garden. Now they would have to work hard for their food. Eve
would know great pain in childbirth.
5. Discuss the wickedness the world fell into when every man did what was right in
his own eyes. Compare and contrast with our own world today.
6. Also, point out how men in those days were smart and intelligent and capable of
doing many complicated tasks. (Since we reject the theory of evolution, there were
no apes or cave men who were our ancestors with limited intelligence.) People
lived in cities which had been built over the course of nine different generations.
Civilization would have progressed. (Refer to the poster about this subject in your
teaching package. Read aloud the following verses.)
Genesis 4:17 Cain built a city.
Genesis 4:21 Jubal was father of all who play the harp and flute.
Genesis 4:22 Tubal-Cain was an instructor of all craftsmen who made
things out of bronze and iron.
Genesis 5:5 Adam lived a total of 930 years. If builders and artists lived
400500 years, they could have created many wondrous sights.
Even though the people were very wicked, they were capable of building
cities, producing works of art, and creating and playing music on a variety of
instruments.
7. Ask how God felt about the wickedness. What was He going to have to do? Could
He just let it go? Why or why not?
8. Comment on how amid all the evil and wickedness there had been found one man
who loved God and rejected the evil of his day.
9. This man was Noah. Scripture says he found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

Day 1: Grades 3-4

THE CROSSROADS (Large Group)

Conclude the discussion by explaining what grace means. It is the God-given ability
to believe in and trust God for salvation. The Bible says Noah found grace in the
eyes of God. Noah stood for God and God would stand for Noah. The attitudes of
Noahs heart were pleasing to God.
God had given Noah the desire to love Him and to reject the evil practices of
others. God looked for someone with this kind of faith to save the human race.
Noah was His man!
What if the people Noah had witnessed to had repented of their sin? Would God
have forgiven them?
God is still looking for anyone who will turn his/her heart to Him in faith and receive
Jesus as Savior. He is looking for those who love Him and are willing to stand for
what is right and good.
Share the ABCs of Salvation and then close in prayer. Be alert to any child who
may want to speak with you about this decision.

APPLY IT! (Huddle Group)

EXPERIMENT: Consider using the experiment for Day 1Ocean in a Bottle to

demonstrate how oil and water do not mix, just like sin and righteousness. These two
things dont like to hang out with each other. Turn away from sin by making right choices
to stand for God!
Instructions:
Fill a clear water bottle two-thirds of the the way.
For the final third, add clear baby oil or vegetable almost to the top.
Drop in four or five drops of blue food coloring, cap it, and then shake.
Explain how oil and water do not mix, just as being good doesnt mix with being
bad. These two things dont like to hang out with each other.
In Noahs day, there were lots of bad people and only a few good people. It was a
big mess. God wanted the people to turn away from sin by making right choices
and standing for God!
Only Noah was willing to obey God.
Challenge the children to do the right thing and stand as Noah did. Make circles
with your index fingers and thumbs and put them over your eyes. SAY: God is
watching everything we do. He is looking for those who make good choices. Noah
made good choices and so can we.

Group Discussion
Listed below are some situations the students may find themselves in. These will make
for lively discussions.
Day 1: Grades 3-4
1. Ask the students to give you three words/phrases that describe Noah. (just,
perfect, walked with God)
2. Ask the students if any of these words would describe them.
3. Discuss with the students various situations where they might be called on to take
a stand for whats right. Listen to what they say and be prepared to give wise
counsel.
You see someone you know being bullied by other kids at school.
You hear people criticize and make fun of a new student who sits alone at
lunch.
You see someone copying a homework assignment someone else had done.
You see someone steal lunch money from another student at school.
4. Ask them to describe other situations where they might have stood up for what
was right.
5. Challenge the students to be willing to stand for what is right like Noah, even if
they are standing alone. God is watching everything we do. He searches for those
whose hearts are turned toward Him. He showed favor on Noah and He will do the
same for those of us who believe in Jesus and live uprightly.

STAND FOR GOD!

BIBLE MEMORY ACTIVITY (Huddle Group)

Go over the meaning of the verse. Have the students repeat it several times with you
and then use the motions. Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 1
Corinthians 16:13. Your students may prefer not to do the motions. Ask them what the
verse means when it says: to watch or to stand fast.
Use these motions to teach the verse.
Watch Hand above eyes looking out in the distance.
Stand fast Stand up straight and tall.
In the faith Fix arms in the shape of a cross.
Be brave. Hands on waist as you stand up tall.
Be strong Arms held up as if to show muscles.
1 Corinthians 16:13 Open hands as if you are holding an open
book.
When the students are ready, have them say the verse together while
hopping on one foot, then while jumping up and down, and then while
turning around.

WRAP UP & GOODBYE (Huddle Group)

Give
each student a Take-Home Sheet for Day 1. As time allows, work through some of
the activities on the sheet while the students are still in class. Challenge them to
complete all the activities.

Day 1: Grades 3-4

Send home any special announcements placed in your room for Monday.
Here are some review questions to use:
1. What happened to Adam and Eve?
2. Where did they go?
3. How were they punished?
4. Were there many people who lived after Adam and Eve?
5. Why did God think the world needed to be destroyed?
6. Why was Noah His choice?
7. What kind of a man was Noah?
8. What things had people learned how to do since the Creation?
