Journal Entry : Into the New World~

Into the New World~ 1, 2, 3Its Practicum Time! For Phase Three practicum, I was
sent to Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Merah, Serian. As usual, we met the Headmaster on the
first day and told him that we were going for practicum in the school. So, we had a long
conversation with him as he told us about the school, rules and regulations, our projects, and
many others. My first impression towards the school and the headmaster was very good. He
treated us like his children and gave lots of advices as he also went through teacher training
before. Of course, he knew about the ups and down being a teacher trainee.

After that, we met with the Curriculum Senior Assistant regarding the mentor teacher,
class, timetable and issues regarding the academic of the school. Being a school located in
Serian district, he told us that they are willing to help teacher trainee especially during the
phase of practicum. Undoubtedly, they treat us in a good way and think of us as their
colleagues. It shows that they cared about the new teacher in the house.

Apart from that, I also met my mentor teacher, Mr. Aldrin anak Jim Bujang. He was
very kind to me and having a father-like figure. So, I felt very comfortable when we were
having our discussion or conversation. His first advice was to make sure that I am capable to
control the class. Otherwise, the pupils will not listen to me as their teacher. Undeniable, the
pupils in Year 3 were very active while having teaching and learning process in the
classroom. Knowing the facts that I will be teaching this kind of class, I need to be fully
prepared in term of mental and physical.

During the first week, I went to observe my mentor teacher teaching styles. At first, I
was thinking like how he managed to teach this class. After my first observation, I learned
that I must lower down my level to cater their level of proficiency. If the tasks are too
difficult for them, absolutely they will lose interest in the teaching and learning process. I also
found out that they were a few pupils who were active in asking and answering questions. I
felt happy because he and she will help me to liven the atmosphere during the teaching and
learning sessions.

Thus, I hope that I can be a good English teacher to the pupils in Year 3. Teaching
profession is not an easy profession, but with helps from my beloved lecturer, my mentor
teacher and friends, hopefully I can achieve my dream.
