SAMPLE CALCULATION

Total Chlorine

The concentration = 0.00 mg/L

The volume of a sample = 10ml/1000 = 0.01 L

The mass of Chlorine = 0.00 mg/L x 0.01 L

= 0.00 mg

Chlorine Free

The concentration = 0.01 mg/L

The volume of sample = 10 ml/1000 = 0.01 L

The mass of Chlorine Free = 0.01 mg/L x 0.01 L

= 0.0001 mg

Iron (Fe)

The concentration of Fe = 0.63 mg/L

The volume of sample = 10 ml/1000 = 0.01 L

The mass of Fe = 0.63 mg/L x 0.01 L

= 0.0063 mg
Phosphorus

The concentration o = 0.44 mg/L

The volume of sample = 10 ml/1000 = 0.01 L

The mass of Phosphorus = 0.44 mg/L x 0.01 L

=0.0044 mg

Sulfate (SO42-)

The concentration = 1 mg/L

The volume of sample = 10 ml/1000 = 0.01 L

The mass of Sulfate (SO42-) = 1 mg/L x 0.01 L

= 0.01 mg

DISCUSSION
Based on the results obtained, the properties of water was determined. The
water sample was collected from the water drainage around seksyen 7 Shah Alam.
The experiment conducted shows five substance in the water which are total
chlorine, chlorine free, iron, phosphorus and sulfate. All of the substance was
determined their concentration and the mass of each substance was calculated.

First of all, the total chlorine concentration is 0.00mg/L which shows that
there was no any presence of total chlorine in the water and it also conclude that
the mass of total chlorine is 0.00 mg. The experiment shows that the free chlorine
concentration is 0.01 mg/L which indicates that free chlorine has low concentration
because the standard safe concentration range is 0.02 mg/L until 2.00 mg/L and the
mass is 0.0001 mg. The iron in the water concentration is 0.63 mg/L ,the
concentration does not exceed the range of standard range for iron in the water but
is considered high concentraion and the colour of water is turn to pink color which
show iron presence in the water . Next ,sulfate concentration is 1 mg/L which still in
the standard safe range of water concentration for sulfate and it is considered low
concentration because it does not even reach the range which are 2.0 mg/L until
70.0 mg/L and the presence is determined by the water turn slightly cloudy.
However, the last substance has also slightly high concentration eventhough it still
within the range . The water shows phosphorus concentration is 0.44 mg/L and the
color is turn to blue pale which determined phosphorus presence.

Lastly , the experiment can be concluded that the water has low
concentration of total chlorine , chlorine free and sulfate whereas it also has high
concentration of iron and phosphorus which can cause any health effect towards
human and aquatic life.

CONCLUSION

Based on the experiment, it can be conclude that that the water has low
concentration of total chlorine , chlorine free and sulfate but it has high
concentration of iron and phosphorus. Low concentration of total chlorine , chlorine
free and sulfate explained the colourless solution formedThe high concentration of
phosphorus and iron can lead to any health damage to human and aquatic life
which the water requires extensives treatment.
