1: A STATEMENT OF MY PERSONAL AIMS OF MY

PERFORMANCE:

Some of my aims for my performance are to pull of a

successful performance that includes a variety of skills and
styles. Doing this will make the audience enjoy my
performance more.
To also fulfil the audiences expectations.
To give a good and flawless performance with no mistakes
to ensure an enjoyable performance.
My style should match my music choice (e.g. have a suit
and play classical)
To provide an amazing performance 10-15 minutes long.
To use the pedal correctly when playing the piano.

Plan of the live show:

Our brief is to host a live show for parents and governors.

Because of this I had to choose suitable songs to play in my
piano repertoire. But I had to make sure that they are not too
boring and needed to make sure that the audience would
know why I put them in there and that they would recognise
them easily. This means that I could include classical pieces
and maybe a few modern ones to show them what their kids
may listen to. I also decided to add in my own composition
called The Kaiser. I aim to perform with my fellow artists in
my class, of which are vocalists and a ukulele player. This
means that together we can create an effective group
performance as well as our own individual repertoires.
My intentions of the performance are to purely entertain
and provide an enjoyable, exhilarating and positive
performance for the audience. Some of my other intentions
include to play my instrument effectively and to act
professional throughout the day. In doing this I will ensure the
best grade that I can get. My posture and punctuality is always
a good feature to have when performing, so that is what I will
look to do. Doing so will result in maybe the audience thinking
highly of me that Im being professional.

My set list contains five solo pieces that I have chosen and
two group pieces. When playing one of my solo pieces In the
Hall of The Mountain King by Edvard Grieg I originally
intended to play with a clarinet accompaniment to add an
interesting sound and deeper feel to the piece, ensuring more
marks. I chose to put this piece in the middle as it will show a
contrast in my repertoire when progressing through it. When
anyone listens to my set they say there is a massive contrast
of emotions when I play mainly because all of my songs
portray different emotions: sadness, happiness and love. I
have chosen a classical style intro to get the audience ready
for my set. I then play Schindlers List to add a classical feel
to my repertoire, as I want to cover all genres. The classical
feel is then interrupted by the slow melody of the Titanic
theme. The main aspect of my set is fluidity. I then play a
piano and clarinet with my classmate and friend Rebecca. I am
of course on piano and Rebecca is on clarinet. We will play the
beautiful In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg. I
chose to play this as it starts of slow and quiet but then gets
fast and loud showing constant dynamics. I chose to then play
a slow pop song called Sweater Weather this is sort of a cool
down song from all the emotion portrayed in the songs
before. This song is what Id call an imagery song. It reminds
you of things and put images of beaches in your mind. I then
want to perform my own composition call The Kaiser which is
inspired by Kaiser Wilhelm which I have studied in GCSE
History. This will then link into two ensemble pieces, Demons
and This is Gospel. I think that this repertoire shows a great
deal of versatility and shows an appropriate selection of pieces
to fulfil the requirements of the brief.

As an artist I am inspired and influenced by many different

musicians. One that stands out for me is Michael Buble. I
have chosen to wear a full DJ suit for the live show as I feel
that this is appropriate to the brief and represents my music
well. Michaels sharp suits represent him as a true gentleman
and this level of professionalism is something that I an
aspiring to in this unit.

We have decided to stage the live show in the school hall

because this is the most professional venue. I will be working
with my class mates and my teacher to stage this event
effectively. We will stage this event for a Year 8 class and
parents/teachers. This will give us a variety of feedback. We
will mic up the grand piano using Sontronics large diaphragm
condenser mics so that performers on stage can hear the
piano and also hear themselves. We will use a small Behringer
PA for this. Vocalists on stage will use SM58 mics. This will all
run into the mixing desk where we have the option to add
some delay effects and reverb on the final mix that the
audience hear. It is important to keep in mind safety when
setting up this show. All wires must be carefully placed so that
there are no trip hazards e.g. using rubber mats to cover any
cables. All performers and audience must know where the fire
exits are located. There is a risk assessment in place when
using the hall which helps us to think carefully about the
safety of our performance venue and use of equipment.

In conclusion, I want to showcase my piano skills in this

live show. I am showing skills of solo performance and also
working in an ensemble. I will use our class time, which is 3
50 minute sessions per week in order to plan the rehearsal of
our ensemble items. I have incorporated classical pieces as
well as my own composition as this will show versatility and
also be appropriate to the brief.
