THE UNPARDONABLE CRIME

You must know my bearers,

That I am a young woman
With all the characteristics
Of my Malayan mother.
You know, I am fond of cities & dances,
And whenever an invitation is given to me,
To go to the dance, I never refuse the offer.

One night, it was a dark & stormy night,

When I asked Mother persmission to go to the dance.
Are you going to the dance? she said.
Why not stay here, and read your Bible,
Or study your lesson? No matter I must go.
Since this dance is held in our victory championship this week
And since my friends are waiting for me there downstairs. I must go Mother.
While I was about to go,
My sister went before me & closed the door.
What do you mean by closing the door?
Do you mean to block up my way?
Out from there! I pushed her. And she fell down.
Then I left home. And went to the dancing hall.
When I reached there! I danced and danced gayly and gayly.
And while I was dancing, I heard a footstep coming towards me. And it whispered into my ears.
Mother is dead! Mother is dead! Mother is dead.
When I heard it, I left the dancing hall & went home.
When I reached home, I opened the door.
And what do you think I saw? Oh! I found my mother lying dead.
Oh! Mother, forgive me, forgive me for what I have done.
Oh! My mother does not answer. Are her lips so tightened that they could not answer my recall?
When I turned back I saw my sister standing pale before me. And I asked her for answers, but
she fell down dead too.
Oh! God forgive me,
Forgive me for what I have done --
Can I live without a mother?
Can I live without a sister?
The Unpardonable Crime
I die.
