The movie Persuasion is based off of Jane Austens last book, also
called Persuasion. This book was the most closely related to her life out of all
of her other novels. The main character in this book is Anne Elliot. She is the
daughter of Sir Walter Elliot. Her two sisters are Elizabeth, the eldest, and
Mary, who married a man named Charles Musgrove. Charles has Two sisters,
Louisa and Henrietta, and has two children, Walter and Charles. Originally,
Charles proposed to Anne, but she rejected him. Charles and Mary have a
rocky marriage and the Musgrove family all prefer Anne. The movie starts off
with the Elliot family packing up and getting ready to go to Bathe. Sir Walter
Elliot was forced to rent his estate to the wealthy Admiral Croft and his wife.
All of the Elliots, except for Anne, are very prideful. Before Anne leaves to go
to Bathe she is invited to stay with her sister Mary to help with the children.
When the Crofts arrive they meet Anne and they become close friends.
Unknown to Anne was that Captain Frederick Wentworth was also with the
Crofts. Years earlier Anne and Wentworth were engaged. Annes close friend
Lady Russell convinced Anne to break off the engagement because at the
time Wentworth was a poor seaman that would be going off to fight in a war.
Anne is still in love with Wentworth but no one knew about the previous
engagement. As the book goes along we see people take advantage of or
ignore Anne. Anne is a quieter person who helps many people. As we get
closer to the end Anne meets her cousin William Elliot and they become
close. That was until it is discovered that he wanted to marry Anne for the
inheritance she would receive. In the end it is discovered that Wentworth is
also still in love with Anne and they get engaged again.
