MESSAGE
Dr. Thong Khon
Minister of Tourism

The Department of Statistics and Tourism Information of the Ministry of

Tourism (MOT) annually compiles and publishes collected data on tourism
statistics report. It is an indispensable instrument for strategic planning and
environmentally sustainable tourism development management. It consists of
significant data on the status of international visitor arrivals and their average
length of stay, domestic tourists, and tourist services.

Cambodia is rich in cultural, historical and natural resources. As a result it is

noticed and ranked as one of the foremost growth destinations in Asia. As a
matter of fact, we witnessed 2.01 million international visitor arrivals in the
calendar year 2007, an 18.5% increase.

Cultural and historical Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Sihanouk Ville offer visitors
a cornucopia of fine restaurants, luxury hotels and other tourism facilities and
services in which visitors shall really experience the authentic Khmer hospitality
with a pleasant and memorable stay in Cambodia that intrigue you to come back.
Sihanouk Ville has just reopened its airport to link between cultural tourism sites
and coastal areas of Cambodia and to welcome direct flights from the countries
in the region.

Visit Cambodia beyond Angkor, visitors can enjoy exotic ecotourism

destinations for example, Mekong River Dolphins, RAMSAR internationally
significant wetlands, mangrove forests, rainforests, coastal zones and the Great
Lake (Tonl Sap). Visitors can also experience varieties of lifestyles, livelihoods
and cultures of ethnic minorities within the picturesque landscapes in
north-eastern provinces. Having seen the significance of tourism linkages the
Royal Government has approved upgrading of the regional airport in north-east
Cambodia, which will attract and disperse visitors to community-based
ecotourism sites. This important tourism initiative will contribute to the
protection and conservation of natural resources and help reduce poverty in
disadvantaged rural and remote areas of our country.

Hopefully this 2007 Statistics Report will be a crucial apparatus for those who
are conducting research on the tourism industry of Cambodia. I would like to
take this opportunity to bless the tourism industry of Cambodia to be sound,
successful and sustainable forever.

Best wishes

Dr. Thong Khon
