Successin NGOs: The Mediating
Role of Transformational
Leadership
In the studies we add to literature that how the Big Five personality traits predict
project success through transformational leadership and how the Big Five traits
predict project success directly.
For this study the author target sector is Non-Governmental organizations (NGO)
which plays a significant role in development of the country.
These Organizations working on a project based structure and most of them
dont invest much on training and development due to resource constraint. So
the personality-job fit is most significant for these Organizations.
Method
Data has been obtained from 7 NGOs Operating in Sindh and Punjab. The Data
on project success is obtained from 2 Important Stakeholders i-e the
project managers and the Clients to whom the ultimate results were
delivered. The data was collected in the time interval of 2-3 month from both
groups.
Discussion
The study Provides an important findings between personality traits and project
success. Out of the Big Five personality traits
1) Openness to Experience was the strongest predictor of project success.
2) Agreeableness was the second strongest predictor of project success.
3) Extraversion significantly positively predicted project success comes at
no 3.
4) Conscientiousness did not predict Project Success directly.
5) Transformational leadership was not found to mediate the relation
between Neuroticism and project success.
Conclusion
The studies concluded that personality dispositions in the forms of the Big Five
personality traits significantly impact project success. Transformational
leadership is a variable that can be viewed as offering a substantial explanatory
path between the Big Five personality traits and project success
