Introduction:
From few decades, project success is main focus by project management
literature. The interest of Researchers develop in this domain is just because in
spite of high rate of project failure the Organizations are switching themselves to
Project Based Structures.

There are various factors involves in project success.


I. Project Manager Characteristics.
II. Composition of Project Teams
III. Project Size
IV. Top Management support
V. Organizational Structure
VI. External Environment Factors
But the important problem in the literature of Project Management is there is a
limited focus on psychological factors that also contributes in project success.
In other type of Organizational Structures the factor devoted to personality have
large amount of literature and which shows multiple organizational outcomes
such as.
I. Job performance
II. Organizational commitment
III. Learning in work place
IV. Job Satisfaction
Personality of Project manager in project success is yet to be tested thoroughly
and Big 5 Model is used. But in spite of using Big five model for ensuring
personality job fit. The fact is that project failure is usually caused by lack of
Proper Leadership skills.

In the studies we add to literature that how the Big Five personality traits predict
project success through transformational leadership and how the Big Five traits
predict project success directly.

For this study the author target sector is Non-Governmental organizations (NGO)
which plays a significant role in development of the country.
These Organizations working on a project based structure and most of them
dont invest much on training and development due to resource constraint. So
the personality-job fit is most significant for these Organizations.

Theory and Hypotheses


5 Hypotheses have been made upon a Big Five Personality Traits and Project
Success

1) Extraversion correlates positively with project success


2) Agreeableness correlates positively with project success
3) Conscientiousness correlates positively with project success
4) Neuroticism correlates negatively with project success
5) Openness to Experience correlates positively with project success

1 Hypotheses have been made upon a Transformational Leadership as a


Mediator Between the Big Five Personality Traits and Project Success
1) Transformational leadership mediates the relations between each of
the Big Five personality traits and project success

Method
Data has been obtained from 7 NGOs Operating in Sindh and Punjab. The Data
on project success is obtained from 2 Important Stakeholders i-e the
project managers and the Clients to whom the ultimate results were
delivered. The data was collected in the time interval of 2-3 month from both
groups.

Discussion
The study Provides an important findings between personality traits and project
success. Out of the Big Five personality traits
1) Openness to Experience was the strongest predictor of project success.
2) Agreeableness was the second strongest predictor of project success.
3) Extraversion significantly positively predicted project success comes at
no 3.
4) Conscientiousness did not predict Project Success directly.
5) Transformational leadership was not found to mediate the relation
between Neuroticism and project success.

Conclusion
The studies concluded that personality dispositions in the forms of the Big Five
personality traits significantly impact project success. Transformational
leadership is a variable that can be viewed as offering a substantial explanatory
path between the Big Five personality traits and project success
