THE Motibhai Group has launched an additional incentive which will benefit cancer patients around the country in addition to their already existing “Bushells Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea” campaign which is running into its 11th year in partnership with the Fiji Cancer Society.
The new campaign which was launched on Monday, May 1, 2017 will continue until the end of September and culminate with the wrapping up of the morning tea fundraiser.
“It is my pleasure to inform that we will be donating five cents from every packet of Bushells sold from the beginning of May to the end of September this year to the Fiji Cancer Society,” Motibhai Group marketing manager Abraham Gomes said.
He said the company estimates funds raised from this new campaign to be in excess of $30,000 which will go directly towards Fiji Cancer Society’s charity funds.
“This new initiative is in addition to our already strong partnership and financial commitment with the Fiji Cancer Society,” Mr Gomes added.
“It is also exciting to note that our morning tea campaign this year will be launched this month and carry on for four-months until the end of September.
“This will give the various business houses of Fiji enough time to host the tea fundraiser, thus generously contributing towards this noble cause.”
Fiji Cancer Society’s board chairman Phillip Low said that the society is thankful to the Motibhai Group for this initiative as innovative contributions as such allow the society to expand its reach and take its community and screening programs even further.
Low said that over the last four-months the society has stepped up its ‘Patient Support Services’ whilst the ‘Survivors Group’ has continued to reach out to patients in the community that are on palliative care.
“We’ve also been extremely saddened that advocates that stood-up to tell their story last year are no longer with us,” Low mentioned.
“This makes our advocacy work even more important and innovate partnerships like this are a blessing in the work of the society and an acknowledgement of the work of all our survivors, especially those who have left for heavenly abode,” Low said.
According to statistics revealed by the Fiji Cancer Society, an estimated 79% of deaths in Fiji are due to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and premature mortality from NCDs is rising. Of these NCDs, cancers are the third leading cause of death behind cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
