CAS Planning Form

Student Name: Sargun Bhatia

Activity Name: Crochet/Knitting blankets for stray dogs

CAS element(s) involved:

C A S Group

Description of Proposed Activity:

Crocheting or knitting blankets for stray dogs

Proposed Activity Supervisor:

Mr Davidson

What challenges and/or new skills will this activity provide?

There will be a few challenges and skills involved in planning and executing a group activity. First of all,
the group must work together to conduct research and finalise a place to distribute these blankets.
Also, the group must contact particular organisations to arrange the distribution of blankets. Then, we
must actually knit the squares. Since I have never knitted or crocheted before, this will be a challenge.
First of all, I must learn how to knit. Then, I must practise and perfect my skills before knitting the
squares to be stitched together.

What do you want to achieve from your participation in this activity?

I hope to make a difference to stray dogs; particularly in the cold winter that Australia is experiencing at
the moment. Furthermore, I hope to develop and refine my collaborative skills in working with my peers
to make a difference. There is an alarmingly high rate of stray dogs. Also, due to global warming,
Australian winters are reaching record low temperatures. By starting on a small scale to make a
difference in Australia and raise awareness, this may slowly lead to a snowballing global effect, where
animal welfare and climate change are prioritised in both legislation and society.

What evidence could be appropriate for this activity?

Which learning outcomes may be appropriate to reflect on for this activity? (NB You do not have to meet
every outcome for each activity. All seven must be achieved over the duration of the CAS Program and before you are signed
off)

LO1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Students are able to see themselves as individuals with various abilities and skills,
of which some are more developed than others.

LO2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
in the process
A new challenge may be an unfamiliar experience or an extension of an existing
one. The newly acquired or developed skills may be shown through experiences
that the student has not previously undertaken or through increased expertise in
an established area.

LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Students can articulate the stages from conceiving an idea to executing a plan for a
CAS experience or series of CAS experiences. This may be accomplished in
collaboration with other participants. Students may show their knowledge and
awareness by building on a previous experience, or by launching a new idea or
process.

LO4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Students demonstrate regular involvement and active engagement in CAS.

LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working

collaboratively
Students are able to identify, demonstrate and critically discuss the benefits and
challenges of collaboration gained through CAS experiences.

LO6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Students are able to identify and demonstrate their understanding of global issues,
make responsible decisions, and take appropriate action in response to the issue,
locally, nationally or internationally.

LO7 Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Students show awareness of the consequences of choices and actions in
planning and carrying out CAS experiences.
