1_Non Graphic Database

The Non-graphic database is the simplest of the InFoCAD databases. Other than the
database header fields added as part of the [BUILD DB] command, the only default
field is GIS_INDX, which holds the database record index. The only other fields in this
database type are the user-defined storage fields. The non-graphic database is often used
as a reference database for TABLE statements in graphic databases.

2_Point Database

The Point database, also referred to as the Space Tag database, is the simplest of the 10
graphic databases. Point databases are used to relate information to simple points in
space by tying them to a specific x,y coordinate. The advantage to this database is that
you do not need any additional graphics, such as segments or figures, in order to tie the
information to the Library. In addition to the reserved InFoCAD graphic fields, this
database, as well as all the remaining databases to be discussed in this section, can
contain user-defined storage fields as well as TABLE and EQUATION fields.

3_Polygon (Figure) Database

The Figure database stores information relative to figures created either by the
[PBUILD] command in the Poly Module or the [FIGURE] command in the GIS
Module. InFoCAD defines a figure as a series of connected COGO points that comprise
at least three segments. In InFoCAD, figures can be either open or closed. The records
of a Figure database can contain the following attribute information: the perimeter and
area of the figure, the results of any graphic comparisons made with the figure, and the
size of any island figures, which are figures that are totally surrounded by another
figure. More information on comparing figures can be found in the discussion of the
[OVERLAY] and [DISSOLVE] commands.

4_Landmark Database

The Landmark database is designed to be used in conjunction with the Network utility
and a Network database. This database stores information about Landmarks, such as
schools, fire stations, libraries, etc., that need to be located in the Network. The
information in this database includes the name of the landmark, the type of landmark
(e.g. school, library or hospital) and the landmark's location in the Network. This
database also includes the necessary fields to allow the landmarks to be geocoded.

5_Waypoint Database

The Waypoint database is designed to be used in conjunction with the Virtual GPS
Navigator. This database stores information about Waypoint, which are used in the
routing process of this product. Please see your DMS representative for more
informaiton on the Virtual GPS Navigator.
6_Address Database

The Address database allows you to relate a unique street address, including street name
and number, or a location name, such as a school or park, to a specific COGO point.
This COGO point can then serve as a node in your street network. This database is
designed to work in conjunction with the Network database and the Network utility.

7_Lat/Long Database

The LAT-LONG database contains the standard reserved InFoCAD graphic fields and
the additional fields, GIS_LAT, GIS_LONG, and GIS_PROJ, which are designed to
store the latitude and longitude of a given point in the Library and the projection system
defined for the Library. In order to populate these fields, the Library must have an
appropriate projection defined using the Projection utility, which is accessed by the
[PROJECT] command.

8_Network Database

A Network database is a segment database and is required in order to perform Network

routing and Geocoding. A network is defined by a series of connecting segments that
have been assigned special attributes, such as whether they represent one-way or two-
way streets and the speed limit on the street. Additional fields in the Network database
contain the FROM and TO street names, the FROM and TO address number ranges on
the left and right side of the street, and the figures, if any, that are on the left and right
sides of the street.

9_Topology Database Type

The Topology database is also a segment database that allows you to assign different
types of attribute information to the segments in the Library that stored in the Segment
Network database. This additional information includes the specific x, y, and z
coordinates of the two COGO points making up the segment and the name of the figures
to the right and left of the segment. The concept is that left and right sides of the
segment are determined based on the FROM and TO COGO points which define the
direction in which the segment was originally drawn.

10_Cogo Database

The COGO database ties attribute information to individual COGO points in the
Library. This function is essential to land surveyors and civil engineers. In addition to
the basic InFoCAD graphic fields, this database stores the x, y, and z coordinates of the
COGO point to which each record is related, as well as whether or not the COGO point
is locked and a description of the COGO point. This additional information expands the
capabilities of the COGO Manager in InFoCAD.
11_Block Database

The Block database is used to assign attribute and database information to blocks, which
are groups of graphic elements that act as a single entity. The records of this database
store the existing block name, the internal InFoCAD block number, and the x,y
coordinates of the block reference point.

12_Schema Database

The Image Schematic database (SCHEMA) is a special database model that is used with
InFoIMAGE, InFoCAD's image display module. The records of the Image Schematic
database allow you to define a hierarchical structure of images in which each image is
related to a parent image that exists above it in the hierarchy, and one or more child
images that exist below it. When used in conjunction with the SCHEMA utility, you can
traverse up and down the hierarchy by graphically selecting records in the base map. A
discussion of the SCHEMA utility can be found in the discussion of the InFoCAD
Image Utility.

ADD DB

he [ADD DB] command is used to create the SAM file to accompany an SDF. An SDF
must be created and imported into the data dictionary prior to executing this command
using the [BUILD DB] command. This command is security conscious and will only
allow the OWNER of the SDF or the System Manager to create the SAM file. [ADD
DB] searches the data dictionary for SDFs and allows you to choose from only those
SDFs in the data dictionary. Selecting the [ADD DB] command causes a selection
window to appear containing all SDFs in the data dictonary. You must select the SDF
for which you want to create a SAM file and press the OK button.

If a SAM file with the same name already exists a dialog box will appear asking if you
want to replace the SAM file with the new SAM file. After the SAM file is created a
dialog box is displayed that gives you the option of creating a SAM file for another
database. In this dialog, selecting the [Yes] button causes the SDF selection window to
appear, allowing you to select another SDF and create a SAM file. The [No] button
causes InFoCAD to return to the main window. In either case, the newly created
database is the current domain to which you can now add records.

BUILD DB

The [BUILD DB] command, the utility that creates database Standard Definition Files
(SDFs), has been completely updated for InFoCAD 3.0 and now features a new Wizard
interface. The new [BUILD DB] wizard greatly simplifies the creation of InFoCAD
SDF files. The [BUILD DB] command still allows you to build any of InFoCAD's
databases complete with custom fields, tables, and equations. The command generates
all of the required statements, provides the proper syntax, loads the file into the Data
Dictionary, and creates the SAM file.
Selecting the [BUILD DB] command causes a standard File Save As dialog box to
appear. You must enter a file name and press the Save button. If you enter or select file
that already exists, a dialog box appears that gives you the option of replacing the
existing SDF with the new one you are about to create. Once you specify a filename, the
first panel of the [BUILD DB] wizard appears.
