Notes:
1. Audio and media message data usages depend on the size of
them.
2. In low data usage mode, data usage could be lower than in
normal mode but the performance of the application may
decrease also in some functions.
3. All the data above are average amount.

Based on Table 2 above, WhatsApp uses average 5.2 MB per minutes and FB
messenger only uses average 4.4 MB per minutes for the video call data usage.
Besides, in the voice call data usage, WhatsApp uses average 740.6 KB per
minutes while FB Messenger only uses average 333.3 KB per minute. Hence, in
the video and voice call functions, FB messenger is consuming lesser data
compared to WhatsApp. In addition, the data used to receive and send text
message for the WhatsApp are average 0.9 KB and 5.0 KB per message based
on 100 text message received and 300 text message sent. On the other hand,
FB messenger consumed slightly higher data for receiving and sending text
message. FB messenger needs around 4.0 KB to receive a text message and
13.0 KB to send a text message based on 100 text message received and 300
text message sent. Obviously, WhatsApp needs lesser data to receive and send
a text message compared to FB messenger. Also, WhatsApp consumes much
lesser background data than FB messenger in order to provide better
application performance to users as WhatsApp only consumes 50% of total
data usage but FB messenger consumes 73 % of total data usage for the
background. Moreover, WhatsApp implemented the Low data usage mode
option for its users while FB messenger has no this option for its users.
Therefore, based on the comparison above, WhatsApp rates higher in the data
usage because it meets four out of six criteria.

3.2 Security
TABLE 4: Security Comparison

Criterion Security
WhatsApp FB
Messenger
End-to-end Yes Yes
encryption
Two steps Yes No
verification

Based on Table 4 above, both messaging apps do the end-to-end encryption in

every chat conversation. But, this encryption by the WhatsApp ensure only the
sender and recipient can read the content of the conversation and nobody in
between, not even WhatsApp development team. This means, every message
is secured with a lock and only sender and recipient will have that special key
to unlock them. This is no way to turn it off and happens automatically since
there is no need to turn on settings purposely or set up special secret chats to
secure the messages as FB Messenger does. However, FB Messenger only
encrypts message between your device and their servers. Thus, people saying
that there is a lot of information that FB Messenger may leak into the wrong
hands. In term of security, WhatsApp is safest than FB Messenger for user to
have private conversations from different perceptive because it means that the
WhatsApp company itself has decided to run a system in which even it cannot
intercept and read message sent on its own platform. Other than that,
WhatsApp also provide two steps verification that FB Messenger never done to
prevent someone from login to the account using a users phone number
without a six-digit passcode. Generally speaking, WhatsApp require user to
complete two steps of simple task in order to login to the account. The second
step which is passcode will be required whenever someone is trying to login to
the account even user has entered the correct phone number at the first step.
WhatsApp will ask users to provide an email address but not compulsory
because it allow WhatsApp to disable two step verification if user ever forget
their passcode and also to help safeguard the account. The login process will
consider failure if either step never meet the requirement. Therefore, WhatsApp
is widely considered one of the more secure messaging apps than others.
