Dear Mrs. Perry:

While researching colleges for our class project, I have gained more of an idea of what I want in a school, and
how much I can afford. I chose three colleges I am deeply considering: George Washington University,
University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Toronto, where I am hoping to study political science. All three
of these schools are in cities. This was a very important factor when considering schools, as I want to live in a
city post graduation, but also more so I want to have the ability to go to events and have easy access to
entertainment and internships. After living in a suburb for so long, I believe this would be a nice change of
pace. The cities that these colleges are located in all have great ways for me to apply my major. In D.C., where
George Washington University is located, there are many government agencies I could work for or I could work
in media, covering international relations. In Pittsburgh, there isnt as much of a scene for political action,
however this a very politically involved city. In Toronto, I could really apply my international relations
background working for a US company and stationed in Canada or working for the Canadian government, as
the capital of Ottawa is not far from Torontos province of Ontario. All of these locations ensure a beneficial
future as well as a way to get there, built by a web of connections, collected through opportunities found around
urban areas.

In the aforementioned paragraph, I touched on my desired major of Political science, in conjunction with this I
would also like to study and either minor or double major in International relations,. All of these schools have
great programs for this line of work. George Washington University, being probably my top school choice, has
an interesting political communications major, a career I could really see myself in, working on documentaries,
for a news network, or in broadcasting. University of Pittsburgh pairs political science with philosophy, this
would give me an amazing eye into a different avenue of the field, this major would most likely lead to a career
as a political scientist or politician. At University of Toronto I could pair the major with international relations,
and I would have the opportunity to focus on studying how that relates to specific cultures. As well as highly
advanced majors, all the of these institutions also have amazing opportunities in terms of internships, clubs and
other organizations. I would consider University of Pittsburgh to be a middle of the road to reach school, while
I would classify George Washington University and University of Toronto to be reach schools, though I may
have some chance of getting into all of them. Another factor concerning my choosing schools is price, both
University of Pittsburgh and University of Toronto have viable price tags, while to go to George Washington
University I would need some kind of scholarship money, in order to keep costs down.
Upon reviewing my research, I have found that all three schools appeal to me because of their amazing
locations, excellent programs, and advantageous clubs and internship opportunities. They all also seem to be
places that fall in a range of schools I could possibly be accepted to.

In terms of my Myers-Brigg results, these schools are perfect for me. In analyzing my results, I know that I a
dreamer and an idealist, so applying to dream schools that are also places I could get into, places that I love is a
good option for me to fulfil that. I am also a caring, service- focused person, and all three of these schools have
amazing opportunities for students to help others as well as additional service opportunities in surrounding
areas. These results taken from the surveys we have done, help me decide if a college is right for me, as it
describes my personality and I can mesh that with that of the school.

Sincerely,

Lizzie Bourque
