Benefits
Every decision to buy, sell, trade or refine crude oil has at its core
the directive to maximize profits. But in order to maximize
profitability, it is necessary to make a thorough and accurate
diagnostic assessment and comparison of crude qualities in a
matter of minutes.
ASSAY2 is a crude oil evaluation and selection database
application designed to give you that power. Refinery planners
can use ASSAY2 with confidence to prepare planning and
scheduling assessments, to organize both strategic and short-
range plans, and to generate input for linear programming (LP)
models. Using ASSAY2, traders can compare the qualities of
various crude offerings in order to allow more economic
placement of crude oils. Upstream operations of fully integrated
oil companies can use ASSAY2 to assess strategic plans for
exploration and production efforts.
ASSAY2 incorporates features designed to make the decision to
buy, sell, trade or refine crude oils not only time-efficient, but also
cost-effective.

Features
State-of-the-art graphical user interface: ASSAY2 accepts
data either by a cut-and-paste method or by Microsoft Excel
spreadsheet import. Drag-and-drop features are included for data
and property correction. In addition to expanded property
capabilities, ASSAY2 offers several other capabilities for added
functionality, such as:
User-defined custom properties
User-defined predictive functionality, including the ability
to enter your own predictive correlation
User-defined predictive methods, such as power
functionality, polynomials and mixed functionality
Crude oil library management: ASSAY2 includes crude oil
library management features that allow you to create, delete or
copy crude oil libraries. Another feature lets you import libraries
from other crude assay evaluation applications from libraries
provided by Honeywell or from properly formatted user
spreadsheets. ASSAY2 also allows you to sort crudes by
categories such as sulfur content, API gravity, geographical
origin or assay data.
Crude oil library data manipulation: ASSAY2 allows you to
quickly and easily manipulate data from crude oil libraries. After
the initial input or import of crude property data, ASSAY2
completes a process that validates the integrity of the data. When
this process is complete, ASSAY2 fills in missing property data
and adds additional property information. You can then review
and approve the data prior to adding it to the library.

You can also easily produce graphs displaying selected
properties, which you can compare to reference crude or crudes.
You can then use ASSAY2s drag-and-drop capabilities to modify
the crude properties directly from these graphs.

Crude ASSAY management: Using ASSAY2s crude assay
management features, you can add crude assays by input from
the graphical user interface, by spreadsheets or from any ODBC-
compliant database.
Graphical views for comparison and adjustment of property data
Property predictions: ASSAY2s property prediction capabilities
include a wide range of properties. You can also define your own
proprietary correlations to augment those provided with the
standard ASSAY2 license.

Calculations: Instead of using simple interpolation and
extrapolation methods, ASSAY2 performs calculations either by
integration or using other preferred curve-fitting techniques.
Library data is refreshed using original or updated input data,
rather than from a series of standard library cuts.
Breaking up and blending crude assays: ASSAY2 allows you
to break up crude assays in a manner consistent with your
individually tailored cut schemes so you can evaluate the
qualities and yields of individual cuts. You can then use these
qualities to determine either their singular or comparative values
individually or as blended with other crudes or crude
components. ASSAY2 handles the imperfect fractionation using
Shortcut Distillation.
Reporting: The ASSAY2 Report Factory provides a set of
standard reports for input, developed and processed data, as
well as the ability to generate customized reports in Excel.
LP input Formats: ASSAY2 provides linear programming (LP)
file input capability for AspenTechs PIMS, Haverlys GRTMPS
and Honeywell GAMMA-based RPMS.
Create databases for refinery LP planning and scheduling models
Export and import: ASSAY2 allows you export and import data
entries from one ASSAY2 database to another.
