Sunday, June 11, 2017, First Sunday After Pentecost

A Peek At The Sunday Sermon

Sunday, June 11th will be a special service! The Pastor and Congregation
are stepping outdoors and worshipping on the front lawn!

This is a picture of the pastor preaching at the outdoor

service we held in 2016. I cant remember the sermon
topic or the point I was making during this Sunday but
from the looks of it, I was having a good time!

And this is what will happen when we gather together for

Sunday Worship. Singing. Praying. Preaching. It will be
a good time because Gods Holy Spirit will move in our
midsts as we praise the Lord, together.

The sermon title is Praise the Lord Anywhere Anytime! One

theologian was quoted as saying: The greatest truth of God is that He
is worthy of our worship, and the deepest truth about ourselves is
that we have been created to worship Him! And this we will do an
hour of worship and praise to God! Its something we have been created to
do!

My sermon text is Psalm 150. If youll read the passage and prayerfully
reflect on the lessons contained within this beautiful song, you will be ready
for outdoor worship at Dearborn Congregational Church!
1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heaven!
2 Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness!
3 Praise him with a blast of the rams horn; praise him with the lyre and harp!
4 Praise him with the tambourine and dancing;

praise him with strings and flutes!

5 Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
6 Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD!

Praise the LORD!

Beginning June 11th (Trinity Sunday) the altar colors are green.

Symbolizes the renewal of vegetation and generally of

lving things and the promise of new life! The colors
on the altar and pulpit will not change until Advent!

Our suggested Scripture reading from the 2017 UCC Church Calendar, is
found in Genesis 1:1-4.

The Account of Creation!

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

The earth was formless and empty, and

darkness covered the deep waters. And the
Spirit of God was hovering over the surface
of the waters.
3
Then God said, Let there be light, and
there was light. And God saw that the light
was good.

Then he separated the light from the

darkness.

Helping the Needy

We are now collecting non-perishable food
donations that will be delivered to the Fish &
Loaves food pantry, in Taylor. This organization
was first launched by an ecumenical group of
churches, led by St. Paul United Church of Christ
in Taylor and their Pastor, Rev. Geoff Drutchas.

Fish & Loaves offers needy families and individuals a wide range of canned
goods, refrigerated and frozen foods, dairy products, and seasonal produce
at no cost to clients. Since opening its doors in 2008, the Fish & Loaves
Pantry has assisted more than 9100 households and over 13,000 men,
women, and children. They distribute over two million pounds of food
annually.

We Need An Upgrade In Singing!

Sound, theological preaching from the pulpit and good-sounding,
theological singing from the congregation on Sunday - they both play a vital
role in the life of Gods people!

Here at Dearborn Congregational Church, our music ministry is challenged

to present songs and music that is both relevant and inspiring. We are
striving for music that stirs the soul and blesses the Lord. We want more
than just background melodies.

And yet, isnt it true that we believers are surrounded with music from
television and radio, the background music of an elevator ride, the tunes
we hear at our favorite restaurant or canned music that soothes us in the
waiting dentist waiting room . All fine in their respective settings - but music
in our place of worship should be more than background harmony. And
besides, outside of the church, how many places offer an opportunity for a
person to sing in a group?

Music is a gift of God and singing is a ministry that belongs to all of Gods
people. The congregation is always the primary choir! At DCC, the seven
or eight individuals who have volunteered to put on a robe and sing with
our Music Director they do so to aid the whole people of God in their
worship.
And so we (the Dearborn Congregational Choir) are on a mission! With
the inspired leadership of our Music Director, Brian Sampson, we are
working together to add a new hymn books to the sanctuary! (We may be
small but we have a big vision!). Its called the Celebration Hymnal -
and its going to be a wonderful upgrade in congregational singing!

Our Church currently uses The Pilgrim Hymnal

(purchased in 1960) and The New Century Hymnal
(purchased in 1995). So MUCH has happened, in the
world of sacred music, since those two hymn books were
installed. More importantly, many of the hymns and
choruses we love to sing cant be found in either book!

To remedy this, members of the choir are pooling

together their resources and some are reaching out to
those who may like to help us in our music ministry. One choir member,
John Peters, drafted a letter that will be sent to out soon.
In an effort to improve and upgrade our musical selections for Sunday
services, our Music Director, Brian Sampson, and the Music
Committee of Dearborn Congregational Church have begun a
drive for donations from Choir members and friends of the church to
fund the purchase of new "Celebration Hymnals" for our
congregation. Donations can be made by cash or check and given to
either Rev. Kren or placed in an offering envelope clearly marked
New Hymnals.
We have places in our pews for 120 hymn books and the cost is
approximately $15.00 each for the Celebration Hymnal. Every hymn book
purchased will include (at the donors request) a permanent book plate with
the following information: Presented by with the name of the donor, and
In Memory Of which will list the name or names submitted.

Just think only $105.00 will purchase 8 hymnals! Would you prayerfully
consider helping out our little church? Help us to sing help us to praise
the Lord!

The Buck Stops Here - or - What The Bible Says About

President Harry Trumans famous plaque on his Oval Office desk

read, The buck Stops Here. In other words, whatever the blame or
responsibility that passed from one person to another, it ended with
him! In similar fashion, the Bible represents our final authority for
knowing Gods will for our lives. From the Book of Isaiah to St.
Pauls Letter to the Colossians this is going to be an exciting
adventure. Each week - a different topic for study. Are you ready to
discover what the Bible says about the many issues of importance in
your life? See youTuesday, July 11th at 7:00 PM!
Circle the Date! I know its a 8 weeks away but I thought you
should have a heads-up on an exciting Sunday Morning Worship
Service. On July 30th its SINGING SERMON SUNDAY!

In preparation for this day of worship, This is the form that we will
distribute so that you can request your favorite hymn(s). Well try
to sing as many of the requests as possible and share a little
history on each song. Watch your Sunday bulletin for additional
information and for the request form.

Blessings,

Pastor Bill
