Most part of Mars is seen as red dessert. Above the desert there is yellow cloud or dust.
Its atmosphere contains carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon and a little amount of steam.
About one third of its surface is seen like a dry ocean. It is darkish. This ocean-like color
changes at every season, therefore it is predicted that there are plants on it. In 1877 by
using telescope Giovanni V. Schiaparelli, an Italian astronomer announced that Mars has
many holes. Another astronomer, P. Lowell of America said that Mars has many canals
which water flows to the desert, but G.P. Kuiper, also from America together with his
friends do not believe about the canals. Like the earth, Mars also has North and South
poles which are covered by frozen water or frozen carbon dioxide.
If earth has 365 days a year, Mars has 687 days. It rotates once in every 24 hours 37
minutes. On every two years and two months of its orbit Mars travels close to the earth.
The United States has launched three man-made satellites to explore Mars. They
made photos of its surface. The satellites are Marine VI, Marine VII which were launched
in 1969 and Marine IX which was launched in 1971. The photos show that Mars has a
great many of mountains and valleys and steam in its atmosphere. Up to now Mars is still
a puzzle. That is why predictions say that :
1. Mars has some active volcanoes.
2. Its poles has some active volcanoes;
3. Long time ago Mars has many rivers and oceans;
4. The gravitation is one third of earth’s gravitation.
