Directional Coupler and SP Splitter

DC/* AND SP
Motorola's STARLINE Directional Coupler and Splitter
are used with our Mini-Bridger series amplifier. Purpose
Motorola's STARLINE Directional Coupler
of the device is to activate and direct ports 3 and 4 in and Splitter are used with our Mini-Bridger
the amplifier. The MB amplifier is shipped with a jumper
installed, which will only activate one port, 3 or 4. series amplifier.
These models are used in the SG1000 optical node to
activate ports 2 or 3.

ERGONOMICS: ENHANCED EASE OF USE

Enhanced ergonomics add to the ease of use for the lat-

est STARLINE Directional Coupler and Splitter DC/* and
SP. This "ease of use" is achieved by implementing taller
coupler/splitter with plastic shells and guides. All field-
installed components are easily accessible through the
chassis cover and can be installed and removed by a
"gloved hand" without a tool. Block diagrams distin-
guishing forward and return paths by color are printed on
the chassis covers for easy reference of components.
The new ergonomic accessories are equivalent to the
previous accessories, with the addition of removable
plastic guides and shells. The coupler/splitter is simply
a taller version of the previous part allowing the part to
be accessible through the chassis cover. All new and
former accessories are backward/forward compatible.
BACKWARD/FORWARD COMPATIBILITY
Forward Compatibility: The latest amplifiers units may use all ergonomic accessories,
but it is also possible to use the older version MB-DC/* or MB-SP, if desired. However,
these older accessories may require removal of the chassis cover for installation.
Backward Compatibility: The ergonomic accessories are the same as the previous
accessories, except for the addition of the plastic guides and shells. See chart
below for nomenclature. Therefore, the plastic guides and shells, can be removed
for use in older Amplifiers.

 To use the ergonomic DC/* or SP with non-compatible MB*/*s, you
must remove the plastic cover by following these steps:

1 Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the slot on the side of the cover and
rotate in either direction to slightly spread the side wall of the cover, as
illustrated in Figure 1.
2 Grasp the DC/* or SP board at a point near the screwdriver and pull it away
from the plastic cover.
3 Use your fingers to insert the DC/* or SP board into the amplifier. Both
boards are completely compatible with all previous MB*/* models.
