Book: The Three Billy Goats Flu

Objective
Listening: TLW listen to the story as it is read to them.

Writing: TLW write predictions with in a text.

Speaking: TLW discuss the story and practice retell.

Lesson
Story:The Three Billy Goats Flu By: Rachael Mortimer

Vocabulary/ Phrases: leaped, Trembled, quaking

Focus:
Key Ideas and details: What is the story about? Who is telling the story?Who are the characters in the story? Who is the main character?
Questions: What are the three billy goats trying to do? Why was the troll upset? How did they solve the problem?
Character analysis of a troll
Characters can change - think about troll at the beginning of the story. How did he change?
Retell:

Cra and Structure: Large bold print words

Integration of knowledge and ideas: Text to self-connections - read the part that tells what troll did before bed.. have students write
about what they do before bed.

Discuss the author and illustrator relationship and how they work together.

Day 1:
Read text: -

Word work: long/i/ vs. short /i/ determining short from long.
Phonemic Awareness: CVC blending or segmenting
Interactive Writing: - Focus: Predicting-
First Grade: Point out the mechanics of a sentence (capital letters, spaces
between words, punctuation, Word Wall words spelled correctly). You can
also model stretching out sounds.

Day 2:
Read Text: - Focus on retell:- Read aloud: Read the story again. Focus on retell.
Revisit vocabulary: discuss the meaning of trembled
Word work: Long /i/ vs short /i/ sounds discuss lazy e rule
Phonemic Awareness: Initial Sounds- Play Swap it out

Day 3:
Word Work: Making words activity - long i - sneaky e rule practice
Phonemic Awareness: syllabication - blending and segmenting
Read aloud: Reread - readers make connections - How do you get ready for bed?
Vocabulary Work: - revisit leaped - discuss how when the d at the end of the word sounds like a t.

Day 4:
Word Work: - highlight the /i_e/ word chunk and read the words.
Phonemic Awareness: Rhyming skills
Read aloud: Skill: inferring-

Day 5:
Word work: check for understanding: long /i/ vs short /i/ test
Phonemic Awareness:

Grizzly Bears (Med. High): work on level D, E , F readers, grammar Skills nouns, and verbs, Sight words and vowel sounds -
Comprehension and key details.

Koala Bears (High): This group will be working on Level G, H, I readers, sight words, vocabulary, and grammar skills, nouns, verbs, and
adjectives.
