Lab 1: Cisco Nexus 7000

Hardware Platform
Activity Objective
In this activity, you will utilize the existing lab topology and Cisco Nexus 7010 switches to
identify and verify their various hardware components. After completing this activity, you will
be able to meet these objectives:
Reset your VDC Cisco Nexus 7010 Start-up Configuration
Assign login credentials for the Network Administrator function
Initialize the management interfaces
Utilize Cisco NX-OS commands to validate modules

Visual Objective
Refer to the Lab TopologyLab Aids section of this lab guide for a visual description of this
exercise.
Required Resources
These are the resources and equipment required to complete this activity:
Two Cisco Nexus 7010 chassis with one supervisor modules
One power supply, dual system fans, dual fabric fans, and three fabric modules per chassis
One 48-port 1 Gigabit Ethernet I/O module per chassis
One 32-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet I/O module per chassis with SFP+ SR optical transceivers
installed
Cisco NX-OS LAN Enterprise License
Cisco NX-OS LAN Advanced Services License

2 Implementing Cisco Data Center Networking Infrastructure 2 (DCNI-2) v3.0 2009 Cisco Systems, Inc.
Task 1: View and Validate Key Cisco Nexus 7010 Hardware and
Software Parameters
In this task, you will examine the Cisco Nexus 7010 Hardware and software parameters.

Note The lab topology includes two Cisco Nexus 7010 platforms. Each Nexus 7010 switch is
shared between the pods and has multiple virtual device contexts (VDCs). You will manage
the VDC assigned to your pod.

Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1 Connect to your assigned N7K11-podX switch (where X is your pod number) using
the provided access information (username admin with password pod1nxos,
pod2nxos, or pod3nxos, depending on your pod).

Note The output example is for POD1. The range of interfaces assigned to each POD is different.
Check the LAB Aids or do some show commands from your assigned VDC to find out which
ports are assigned to your VDC.

Step 2 Determine the system software version that is currently running on the Cisco Nexus
7010 Switch.

Task 2 cannot be performed in this lab, because command
attach requires users with role network-admin. network-admin
role is not supported within VDC. Only users defined in the
main VDC with network-admin role can switchto VDC to
perform command attach. Task 2 is kept in the instruction for
your information.
Task 2: Attach to Individual Modules
In this task, you will connect to one of the modules installed in the Cisco Nexus 7010 and
perform some basic tasks.

Note You will conduct this task on Cisco Nexus 7010 equipment shared between the pods. For
that reason, you will be allowed only to examine the setup and will not be able to change
any parameters if not required by the task.

Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1 Connect to your assigned VDC N7K11-podX (where X is your pod number) using
the provided access information.

Note The output example is for POD1. The range of interfaces assigned to each POD is different.
Check the LAB Aids or do some show commands from your assigned VDC to find out which
ports are assigned to your VDC.

Step 2 Use the attach command to connect directly to an individual module.
