Fordtobreakawayfromtheoldsidevalveunits,whichhadpoweredtheprevious100Esmallcarrange.
TheAnglia105EEnginefeaturedoverheadvalvesandoversquaredimensionswithboreandstrokemeasurementsof
80.963mmx48.412mmrespectively.Thenewenginehadacubiccapacityof996.6ccanddeveloped39bhpat5000
rpm,whichpushedthenewAngliaalongatarespectablespeedfor1959.
Inadditiontoitsoversquarecylinderdimensions,afurtherunusualfeature(forthetime)oftheenginewasan
externallymountedcombinedoilfilter/pumpunitdesignedtofacilitateefficientlowcostproduction.
Byleavingtheboreunchangedandextendingthestroke,ForddevelopedalargerenginefortheAngliatocompetewith
itsrivalsatthetime.Thisnewenginehadacapacityof1200ccandtheAngliabecameknownastheAnglia123E.This
newenginealsofoundahomeintheMk1andearlyM2FordCortinas.
