We bleed the same color

-- Guillermo Bautista --

Broke like the farm worker in the 1960s, the United States was the only choice for a better life. Were not here to
invade. We mean no harm. Give us a chance. Look beyond the color of our skin. Look at us as human beings. Were
not bringing crime. Were running away from it. My grandfather took a shot to the head. My brother was deported
at the age of 18 and has been away for 7 years now. Ive felt afraid for his life. Its not about doing wrong anymore or
following the wrong path. Its more like being in the right place at the wrong time and next thing you know youre
gone.

I was raised in the hood always misunderstood because of my place of birth. They think college isnt an option I can
choose, but I refuse to let these walls stay up. Im going to break them down like Miley Cyrus on the wrecking ball.
So sorry Kanye. I really like your album, but I wont be a college dropout. Wait, hold up. Even if I am, Ill still have a
P.H.D. (plenty hundred dollar bills) cause I wont take you cant for an answer.

2017. Trump wants to Make America Great Again but instead he is making it hate again, bringing racism and
discrimination back again, and although I know it never left, its worse now. Not for white people but for the rest.
Im just being real and its not a lie that the richest people in the whole world equal white. Im not a rapist or a
murderer, never committed a crime in my life. My parents are hardworking, dedicated, loving parents of a family of
five. And just like me there are so many with a dream, a dream that you want to destroy. The Dream Act that you
want to take away.

Kindness and compassion toward all living things is the mark of a civilized society, said Cesar Chavez, but instead
we choose to oppress and put down others. Cant we see that were all sisters and brothers? We bleed the same
color. I understand there are evil people out there, but we shouldnt let these people decide the way we perceive an
entire race. If we go based on this mentality, the black man is a gangster, the muslim is a terrorist, the Mexican is a
drug dealer, and the white dude is a school shooter. The actions of one should not decide how we perceive an entire
race. We have to acknowledge that all together we are the human race.

1883. When you needed us, you welcomed us. When you needed help to build your railroads, you welcomed us.You
welcomed us when you needed someone to take care of your agriculture. We were here to feed this country. Cesar
Chavez proved how much you needed us and how much this country needed our support.

Now were asking for an opportunity and you want to kick us out without even knowing our story. Without
understanding our struggles and intentions. Our dreams and motivations. Were not here to invade. We mean no
harm. Give us a chance. Look beyond the color of our skin. Look at us as human beings.
