Globalization

Jasmine Rouse

Source one is a political cartoon. This sources includes a map with stereotypical
items to represent the different parts of the world and a title that says World As We
Know. The implied message of source one is that the countries only know their
surrounding countries for what they supply and not necessarily what they stand for or
who they are as a nation. The artist is demonstrating stereotypes and a bias against
globalization by only showing the common things that most people know about that said
place of the world. The artists shows this by having a popsicle as a repetition of green
land, which we all know is cold. Overall, this artist is demonstrating an ideological
perspective of anti-globalization

Source two is a political cartoon, in this source we can see a giant stomping
through a town with the word globalization on the bottom of his right foot. Above him
are blimp balloons with transnational companies which is implying that he is being
pushed by the transnational companies. The implied message in source two is that
transnational companies own globalization and are destroying small business .The artist
has an ideological perspectives against globalization by showing a giant crushing
everything in its path at the hands of the transnational companies. Overall, the artist has
a perspective of pro-globalization

Source three is a quote by President Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter was the 39th
President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. In this quote Jimmy Carter is very
critical about globalization, he says that globalization is good if you have enough money
to purchase said things. We can see that he is critical about globalization because in the
quote when he states, Globalization, as defined by rich people like us, is a very nice
thing this again shows that he believes globalization is only good if you are apart of the
two-thirds of the people that are rich in the world.

Source two and three are both critical of globalization, they both have the
common factor of that the more money you have then more so called power you have,
in the eyes of the consumerism. In source two it is showing the transnational companies
with the power but in source three it shows the so called rich people with the power.
Overall, both sources believe the more money you have the better globalization is for
you.
