Name and Grade Level: Japan Unit: Grade 3, Lesson 5

Title: Daily Life

Content Knowledge - Objective: What would a typical day of a


child/family look like in Japan?

After a virtual field trip of a day in the life of a child in Japan,


students will write a diary entry describing what a day in the life
of a child in Japan would be like.

Pedagogy:

Virtual Field Trip-Students will take a virtual field trip to see what a
typical day would be like in Japan.

Independent Work- Students will work independently to write a diary


entry, describing a day in the life of a child who lives in Japan.

Notes:

Students will be assessed informally through questioning throughout


the lesson. Students will be assessed formally on their diary entry
writing they create.

Technology for Learners Being Used


Students will take a virtual field trip using the SMARTboard.
Students will use computers to type their diary entry.
Technology for Teachers Being Used
The teacher will use the computer to gather images and video clips to
include in the virtual field trip. The teacher will use Explain
Everyhting.com to create a video that will be the virtual fieldtrip.

What 21st Century Skills are Students Using?

Critical Thinking: Students will use their critical thinking skills when
they take the point of a view of a child from Japan and write a diary
entry.

Creating: Students will create a diary entry to describe a day in the


life of a Japanese child.

Communication: Students will communicate during the virtual field trip


when they ask and answer questions.

Collaboration:
Which Blooms Taxonomy? And Which Bloom Taxonomy for Digital?

Remember/ Understand- Students will recall basic information about


the daily lives of people in Japan.

Apply- Students will take the information they learned about the daily
lives of people in Japan, and write a journal entry from the point of a
view of a Japanese child.

Create- The virtual field trip will be created for the students to view
and get to experience.

Essential Vocabulary: Japan, virtual field trip,

Materials: Computers, SMARTboard, Virtual field trip

Introduction/Engagement: The classroom door will be decorated as an


airplane when students walk in (as if they were really going to Japan).
The desks will be set up in rows like an airplane.
Lesson: (developmental procedures)
Students will walk into the classroom; the door will be decorated
as an airplane.
Students will take a seat (desks will be arranged like an airplane)
Students will take a virtual field trip to Japan; while students
watch the video they will be able to ask and answer questions
Students will write a diary entry as if they were a child living in
Japan, describing a day in the life
Students will be able to share their diary entry with the class

Modification:
Struggling writers will receive sentence starters for the diary entry.

Enrichment:
Students can create a comic strip using Pixton to go along with their
diary entry.
