Objective: Students will be able to categorize 10 words with their correct long a vowel pattern with 80%
accuracy.

ASSESSMENT/ Students will write 10 words under the matching long A vowel pattern on their
EVALUATION worksheet. They will also underline the letters in each word that make up the long A
vowel pattern.

I will also observe students throughout the lesson.


STANDARDS CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3.c
ADDRESSED Know final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel
sounds.

ANTICIPATORY SET I will read a poem called Long A.


I am long A and I like to play.
I run all day.
Sometimes I pair with I and y to make train and way.
I always say my name when you see _a_e.
I make words like cake and shake thats no mistake.

LESSON I will show the children different patterns that make the long A sound. (ay, ai, a_e)
I will show them a word that goes with each pattern and point out how that pattern is
I DO: part of that word.

We will identify the long A pattern used in several different words.


WE DO:

Each child will be given a word. They will write that word under the correct pattern on
YOU DO: their worksheet. Children will then rotate words. Once they are back to their original
words I will pass out new words and we will continue to rotate words. (assessment)
