Lesson Idea Name: How Many Kittens in the Basket?
Content Area: Mathematics
Grade Level(s): Kindergarten
Content Standard Addressed: MGSEK.CC.2 Count forward beginning from a given number within
the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).

Technology Standard Addressed: 1. Empowered Learner

Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating
competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences. Students:

1. articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to achieve
them and re ect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes.
2. build networks and customize their learning environments in ways that support the learning
process.
3. use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate
their learning in a variety of ways.
4. understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the ability to
choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies and are able to transfer their knowledge to
explore emerging technologies.

Selected Technology Tool: Narrated PowerPoint

Level 5: Expansion Level 6: Refinement

Lesson idea implementation:
To address both the technology and content standards, I have created a Narrated PowerPoint
demonstrating how to count the amount of kittens in the basket. I will introduce the lesson by
reviewing counting principles and number concepts, and the whole lesson should take about twenty
to twenty five minutes. I will assess the students learning by keeping note of which student is able
to correctly identify the amount of kittens in the basket before revealing the answer.

Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)
In order to extend student learning to a higher Blooms critical thinking level I will have the
students also tell me one more or one less than the amount of kittens shown in the basket. This will
help identify number sequences. To increase the LoTi level, I could make a portion of the lesson
technologically interactive where they would have to physically touch the correct amount of kittens.
To conclude the lesson, I will review number sequences and number concepts while going over the
kittens once more, if needed.
