Specifications for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for HEI Sub-Contractors

All HEI sub-contractors and their associated sub-contractors working on the Hassyan Clean
Coal project site and visitors visiting the site, shall supply free of charge to their workers and
visitors, and enforce the use of the following PPE at all times. This is a mandatory contract
requirement.

1. Safety Helmets
Shall be:
1.1. Manufactured in accordance with EN 397:2012 or the equivalent, shall be worn at
all times on the project site, except in completed offices, control rooms or designated
PPE free zones.
1.2. Fitted with an adjustable chin strap with four fixing points, which must be fastened
when the helmet is worn.
1.3. Compatible with additional items of PPE to be worn with it (e.g. visor, hearing
protection, welding visor).
1.4. Colour coded as follows:
1.4.1. Managers and Engineers White
1.4.2. HSE Red
1.4.3. General workers Blue

2. Safety Footwear
Shall be:
2.1. S3 code in accordance with ISO 20345:2011 or equivalent.
2.2. Boots providing ankle protection.

3. Protective Work Clothing


Legs, arms and body shall be covered by protective clothing adapted to the type of work
and the work environment:
3.1. Long trousers and long sleeves that protect against the risk of abrasion, cuts,
contact burns and sun burns shall be used.
3.2. The fabric used for work clothing shall be unblended cotton, so far as is reasonably
practicable.
3.3. Reflective high visibility tape must be incorporated in the design.
3.4. For all offshore work coveralls shall be coloured orange.

4. Eye Protection
All personnel on the Hassyan Project Site shall wear eye protection (except in offices,
control rooms and designated PPE free zones) as a minimum:
4.1. Safety spectacles offering an eye and side protection against impact in accordance
with EN 166:2001 or equivalent.
4.2. Corrective glasses must comply with the requirements of safety spectacles (EN
166:2001
equivalent) and must offer side protection against impact, or must be otherwise
protected with over-spectacles that comply with the requirements of safety
spectacles.
4.3. Safety goggles as specified in the risk assessment for the task to be performed (e.g.
dust protection, liquid splash protection) shall be supplied.

5. High Visibility Jacket or Vest
5.1. Must be of class 2 according to ISO 20471:2013, or equivalent must be worn by all
personnel on site except when protective work clothing with reflective high visibility
tape in accordance with paragraph 3 is being worn.
5.2. Specified workers performing high risk activities must wear a different coloured high
visibility vest with their job function printed on the back, specifically Riggers and
Banksmen.

6. Safety Gloves
Safety gloves specified in the risk assessment of the task to be performed shall be worn
to protect hands against injury shall be supplied. Working without gloves is only
permitted where no risk to the hands exists or where the work cannot be safely
performed while wearing gloves.<

7. Personal Water Bottle


A personal water bottle will be mandatory PPE. This will be minimum 1 litre in volume.

8. Full Body Harnesses


Only full body harnesses shall be used with
8.1. Twin fall arrest shock absorbing lanyards when working at height.
8.2. Adjustable restraint lanyard when working from a MEWP.

9. Specialised and additional PPE


9.1. Full face shield shall be used in addition to mandatory eye protection as in
paragraph 4 when cutting or grinding. This shall be compatible with the Safety
Helmet being worn.
9.2. Welding helmet shall be used in addition to mandatory eye protection as in
paragraph 4 when welding. This shall be compatible with the Safety Helmet being
worn.
9.3. Lifejackets used on HEI sites must provide 150 N / 16 kg of buoyancy, suitable for
unconscious persons, and as such must comply with the requirements of EN396,
ISO 12402-3, or equivalent.
9.4. Respiratory Protective Equipment shall be provided as identified in the task risk
assessment.
9.5. Hearing protection shall be supplied and worn as follows unless otherwise specified
in the task risk assessment
9.5.1. General hearing protection shall be of the disposable in ear type.
9.5.2. Where extended use is required for high noise activities ear muffs shall be
supplied.

10. Recommended
10.1. Hard hat sun shades.
10.2. Face/head sun protection.
10.3. Sun cream .
