The story: Run! By Loreto Rodrguez de Rivera Alemn

They have warned us again. Another barge has arrived on the beach. Some swimmer must have
phoned 112. The protocol is activated.
The calm sea over the last few days has become an advertising ploy of the illusion of a better life. They
are more and more. I find it harder and harder. I see their frightened faces, their eyes wide open, their
gazes struggling with our incomprehensible words, their expressions, so difficult to understand.
Our orders are clear. The colonel repeats them every time: they are illegal, order them to halt if they
dont stop take out your gun. There seems to be 11 today, all male, they run and try to go deep into
the woods in order to hide and be able to continue their journey on land, with no war, no fear, no
hunger That is what they hope for anyway.
Neither my body nor my heart is ready for this anymore. While I am running towards the place, the
same questions resonate in my mind, they pound and make me doubt more and more.
I can see one of them. He is running away fast, like he is being pushed by the wind; the last glimmer of
hope encourages him. He climbs up the rocks, trying to reach the pinewood. It will be difficult to find
him there at nightfall. Therell be no moon today.
Im almost reaching him. I know only too well that I must tell him to halt. Ive done it loads of times.
They all stop, surrender, look at you with a mixture of plea and despair. But something changes in me.
I get to him. He stops, he looks at me, I look at him and I tell him Run! Run and do not look back!
