FAMILY

In connection with family a lot of things can be mentioned for example: family roles, youth problems, divorce,
homelessness, feminism, looking after the children.
Let me start with that, as the twentieth century brought about several changes, a very significant change occured in
family life. Women were an integral part of the war industry in the two world wars. This means they did most of the
jobs men had been responsible for earlier. The roles have not changed completely, though. It is still the women who do
most of the work at home, while their husbands rarely help them.
Also family pattern has changed over the years. A century ago families lived a completely different lifestyle. It was the
husband who was the breadwinner of the family. He was responsible for earning the money for the family. I agree with
this startement that mothers should stay at home taking care of the children and doing the household chores. If the
husband can support the whole family alone,why not bring the old family pattern back. However the role of the wife
was as important as that of the husband.They were supposed to do all housework which was much more difficult than
nowadays. Most women in Hungary have two or three jobs. They are expected to fulfil their duties at work, they have to
take care of the household and bring up the children. It's hard to be a good mother,a good wife and a good career
woman. So no wonder there are a lot of divorces.
There are several reasons why people get divorced. Most people do not know each other at the time of their marriage. It
is vital that young couples cohabit before getting married. If people live together all the bad habits might come up and
then you can decide whether you still want to be bound to the same person or not. Another reason for getting divorced
can be the lack of communication. People do not dare to speak about their problems thinking that they would be burden
on their partner. In my opinion, it is the child who lose the most in a divorce. Obviously, they cannot be split and it is
usually not them who decide which parent will have the right to continue the upbringing.
A prenuptial agreement is an essential part of a marriage nowadays. It is the best way to avoid future quarrels that
might come up after a divorce. I personally believe the ideal age to start a family is 25-35, when you have a right
partner, a job and you are ready to support a family. Let's talk about the problems of the young couples after getting
married. One problem is housing shortage,the other is the lack of money to buy a new house. In today's world it is
almost unimaginable to have three or even four generations living under the same roof in Hungary. A century ago it was
normal to do so but not any more. To tackle housing as a high social priority requires spending on a vast scale on public
housing. Interest rates should be reduced, run-down houses should be renovated and sold cheaply, all taxes on building
materials should be removed and building industries should work harder and more efficiently.
Unfortunately in Hungary, big towns are facing a huge problem: Homeless people and beggars occupy many of the
waiting rooms at railway and bus stations but you can bump into them in underpasses and doorways. Some have
become homeless through divorce, others have failed to keep up mortgage on payments, some have become
unemployed and their lives fell apart.
As far as I know, the first feminists emerged in part from women's sense of alliance with one another and their shared
discontent. Feminists are united by the idea that the position of women society is unequal to that of men, and that
society is structured in such a way as to benefit men to the political, social and economic detriment of women. The most
important aspect of the movement was to achieve suffrage for women. Some countries, especially Arabic ones, still do
not give voting rights to women.
Finally in my opinion having and rearing a child is the hardest but the best part of your life. There is a child whereof
you care about. You can also share your experiences. It is very important to direct a child's energy into the right
channels. A child often has more energy than he knows what to do with. When parents are too permissive the kids can
easily get out of control and become unmanageable. And the corporal punishment not the best solution to discipline the
children because it only frightens them and makes both the children and the parent feel unhappy. Later, youngsters
should be taught respect for other people and the respect for the law. They must know what is morally right or wrong. In
most secondary schools in Hungary students have to cope with an enormous workload. Teachers force them to do a lot
of homework and take oral tests in class, which puts an unrelenting mental pressure on them. Teenagers have some
problems by the time they are 15 or 17. They would like to be given unrestricted freedom at one moment and would like
to be told what to do the next. Parents should have a say in the choice of their children's careers but the final decision
should be left up to the child. Parents have to teach their kids how to stand on their own feet when they grow up.
