I. Introduction †
Vision
To let the spirit of God dwell in the hearts of all, to deepen the spirituality among
others, and in turn, to have everyone answer God’s call

Mission

Following the Youth Christian Life Community Way of Life, maintaining good
relationships with people and striving to do more than what is expected

Objectives
This manual aims to guide the new core group members in doing their tasks. It is
important that each individual is aware of his duties and responsibilities. He expected to be
dedicated to the club because of his commitment to YCLC. Accountabilities lie in the tasks of
each person. Above all, the spirit of spirituality must remain intact throughout the year.

"At the heart of any real intimacy is a certain vulnerability. It is hard to trust someone
with your vulnerability unless you can see a matching vulnerability and know that you will not
be judged. In some basic way, it is our imperfections and even our pain that draws others close
to us." -R.N Remen, MD

Partnership among the spirituality aspect is a strong bond that never breaks even during
times of misery and grief. If one falls, the other will pick him up. If one cries, the other gives a
comforting hug, knowing the fact that both people have the same purpose: to do more for
God’s greater glory.

“Spirituality is rooted in the experience of God’s personal love, seeing others as God
sees them- unique and personally loved. It is the way of Cura Personalis, of caring, forgiveness
and reconciliation.
It is spirituality that understands the way of the cross. We live in a world broken and in
pain, and thus accept that the Magis, our service of greater worth, may ask us to follow Christ
bearing His cross in our world (GC 5, Decree 2, no. 12).” –Fr. Nebres, S.J.

Ultimately, Jesus is our guide, our friend and our brother. He should be on top of all
things, the center of spirituality. Thus, every action in the spirituality aspect is done out of love.

To love is a choice.

A. Prayer Cells

A Prayer Cell is a good opportunity to share one’s experiences and

problems and to reflect together as one small group. It is in one of these private
moments that each individual feels comfortable and relaxed despite the heavy
workload faced in school.

Current Prayer Cells

The Prayer Cells are held during GAs (SY 2008-2009). The whole YCLC community breaks
into small groups, usually arranged by year levels, and proceeds to the venues assigned to them.

STEPS IN PREPARATION FOR THE FIRST PRAYER CELL ACTIVITY

Step 1- Get a list of YCLC members. Divide them into small groups with the same year
level. Each group should have a maximum of 10 members, but it is recommended that a prayer
cell group should only have more or less 5 members. Arrange them in such a way that a prayer
cell guide will be assigned readily to each small group. Each year level must have a theme.

Example: High 1- Community and an Introduction to the CLC Way of Life

Ma’am Je- Mr. Allen Silvano-

Jude Liao H1E Billy Cheung H1E

Mark Uymatiao H1F Benedict Cabilangan H1F
Kevin Cheu H1H Jarrett Yu H1F
Edward Clarin H1G Cell Representative-
Ralph Legarda H1G underlined*

Important: The old members should stick together in one cell group. Similarly, the
new members should have their own cell group. This will allow them to be open to the
reflection and sharing parts of the activity, whereas the old members would have
more bonding sessions.

Notes:
Cell Guide- A cell guide is tasked to initiate the YCLCers’ experience of the CLC
process. His/her Chief task is to guide the prayer cell and to direct the YCLCers, in

a communal manner, to live the CLC Way of Life. He/she is assisted by the Cell
Representative.
Cell Representative- A student representative for the cell group. He is
Step 1

responsible for arranging meetings with other cell members. He is tasked to call
the cell guide for sessions and constantly remind his cell members to attend a
prayer cell. He also makes attendance of all who participated in the activity.
Theme- Each year level has a specific theme:
o First Year Cells- The Community and Self I
o Second Year Cells- The Community and Self II
o Third Year Cells- Christ and Love
o Fourth Year Cells- Following Christ

Step 2- Recruitment of cell guides. After making the list, determine the number of cell
guides needed. Then, start looking for cell guides. He/she may be a teacher, alumnus or
administrator. Assign each cell guide to a specific cell group.
The following cell guides from SY 2008-2009 are listed below:
Step 2

Ma’am Je – Ignite Office

Mr. Allen Silvano – Filipino Department Chairperson
Mr. Delson Balance – Grade School
Mr. Binggoy – Director’s Office, Moderator
Chico Locsin – Xavier School Alumnus
Bro. Salazar – Filipino Department, Moderator
Achi Nats – Immaculate Concepcion Academy Alumna

Note: If there are not enough cell guides, please make sure to look for them before the
school year starts. You may opt to have a substitute cell guide or to merge cell groups.

Warning! - A cell group without a permanent cell guide is devoid of the CLC Way of
Life.

Step 3- Orientation of Cell Guides. Give them all the details and the necessary
information regarding cell group, cell guide responsibilities, etc. Orientation of cell
guides must be done properly, especially to the new ones.
Steps 3-4

Option 1 Individual Orientation: Approach him/her personally.

Option 2 Group Orientation: Schedule a meeting for the cell guides. You
may have a meeting right after a GA. However, it is not recommended that you conduct
an orientation during a GA because it may disrupt ongoing activities.

Step 4- Attendance Sheet. Make an attendance sheet for each cell group in
preparation for the first prayer cell session, as well the future prayer cell sessions. The
attendance sheet will be checked by the cell representatives. For every prayer cell
Page 5 of 31

session, give it to the cell representatives so that they can check the attendance. In this
case, ask a temporary representative to check attendance.
An example of the attendance sheet is shown below: Cell Guide and Cell Rep:

Note: Please print it on hard paper.

Step 5- Deployment of Cell Guides. This is done during a GA itself. Contact the prayer
cell guides a week before and on the day before the prayer cell. You must have them
confirmed. Failure to do so may result to an absence of a cell guide on the day itself.
Step 5

Notes:
Assign a specific area/room before the activity. Make the necessary
reservations at least a week before.
Orient the cell groups about the significance of prayer cells. You may ask
someone to make a short lecture about the cell guides during the GA.
Inform them that they need to decide on a cell representative before the
activity ends. Last year’s representatives cannot repeat this year. Also,
anyone in the core group cannot function as a cell representative.
Prepare a special activity for them. (i.e. At the start of the year =
expectations, the desktop activity)

Step 6- Collection and Evaluation. After the very first prayer cell session, collect the
attendance sheet from every cell representative*. Evaluate the activity by asking the cell
Step 6

guides regarding the activity. This should only take about 5-10 minutes. Keep in mind
that checking on cell groups is important so as to know the conduct exhibited by the
people in the cell group. (in other words, prevention of fighting, etc.)

*Note: You may give the responsibility of returning the attendance sheets to the
cell representative after the prayer cell session has ended.

Proposed Prayer Cells

The Spirituality Aspect faced difficulties in the prayer cell sessions last SY 2008-2009.
Due to time constraints, the YCLC holds prayer cells during GAs. Therefore, the YCLCers
received less prayer cell sessions than they ought to have. In simpler terms, the CLC Way of Life
was compromised, and this is widely unacceptable.

The Proposed Prayer Cells will help make up for the losses experienced by the YCLC
members, and help build better prayer cell sessions among prayer cell groups.

Abstract: (Based on previous prayer cells before SY 2008-2009)

Basically, the prayer cell sessions are done outside GAs. Each prayer cell group
must take responsibility in filling up the quota for each quarter. Usually, a quota of 5 Prayer Cell
Sessions is enough. Cell Representatives are tasked to gather their members, set a venue and
contact the cell guides on their own. In this way, there is less workload for the core group.
Moreover, there would be more involvement from the YCLC members.

B. Salumbaba

The YCLC is tasked to help out in every Mass (held in the HS Gym/Sports Center)
by volunteering for Salumbaba. Salumbaba is defined as a person ready to catch the Breads of
Life that are accidentally dropped. Every CLCer must have the experience so that they will be
more involved in Eucharistic Celebration.

Step by Step Process in Organizing First Friday Unplugged

1 A month before the Unplugged…

Or earlier…
Or way earlier…

“Time is Gold.”
OPTION A IF you chose to do the “Performers First,” at this point, start looking for
bands, singers, host/s, instrumentalists, actors, dancers, etc.

Notes:
Look for people who can perform. Do not force people who are first-timers.
Look for people who know how to play or sing.
Do not waste time waiting for a “Not sure” answer to turn into a “Yes.”
Set a quota for a number of performers. The usual number is 6 (half of them
Step 1

with 2 songs each), but you can go for more.

o Warning: Be sure to be able to handle all performers if you decide to
go for more than 10. This means that the script has to fit all
performers. Stray performers are not allowed.
Do not ask people who have hosted/performed for more than 2 consecutive
times.
Be sure to put a copy of the application form in the Xerox area. Tell them to
get a copy from there or you may send them the application form through e-
mail.
Option a of

Give them a copy of the application form. Be demanding: Set a deadline, and
bug them to complete the application form A.S.A.P.
Ask around. There may be hidden talents from other batches, faculty and
staff. Not to mention the people from the Jesuit Residences, school
administration or even as far as grade school and EED.

Afterwards, confirm the number of performers and host/s. All application forms
with attached lyrics have to be with you at least 2 weeks before the Unplugged.

Gather all songs and come up with a theme for Unplugged. The theme should also
be more or less related to the month of the Unplugged. (i.e. July- 1st FFU= New
Beginnings, October- Month of the Holy Rosary)

Make the Script. (See additional notes** found right after STEP 1 for more details)

Finalize everything. Be ready for changes that may occur sometime in the future.

Spirituality Manual

OPTION B IF you chose to do the “Script First,” at this point, pick a theme that
would suit the month of the Unplugged. (i.e. December- St. Francis Xavier and/or Christmas)

Notes:
The script should be flexible, which means that it can be easily adjusted
when changes occur.
There should be at least 6 Reflections, which are all related to the central
theme you have chosen.
Do not make any one-liner or even three-liner reflections. Remember that
this is a serious and solemn activity.
Step 1

Be open to suggestions. Be updated with the current events both happening

in school and outside school.
Do not copy directly from previous scripts. Unauthorized copying of script/
reflections is Plagiarism. Your creativity will be challenged here.
Do not copy/paste reflections directly from the internet, but you may cite
them by using quotation marks, which will serve as a reference only for the
host/s.
Do not be limited because of the theme. Make general reflections that will
create links from one specific topic to another.
of

Afterwards, polish the script. Check for grammatical errors and typographical errors.
Be ready to insert performers and their songs in each reflection.

Start looking for performers. You must start as early as 3 weeks before Unplugged.
Tell them the Theme or Mood (suggested by the reflection) so that they can choose
the proper songs for it.
B

Give them a copy of the application form through e-mail or the Xerox area. Be sure
to place a copy in the Xerox area.
Option

Be demanding: Ask them to submit on the day of the deadline with their copy of
lyrics. Do this as early as possible.

Gather all the performers and songs and carefully insert them in the script. You may
place a performer with 2 songs on 2 separate reflections.

Finalize everything. Be ready for changes that may occur sometime in the future.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for another year in Xavier School. As we set out on a new journey, may
You guide us with Your grace so that we will not wander off and find our purpose in life. O Lord, may the songs we
hear settle us down from all the stress and make us reflect upon the things which have transpired today. Lastly,
may You remind us to always do the highest good in order to glorify Your name.
Amen

Note: You may ask someone to make an opening prayer. The host doesn’t necessarily have to be
the one to say it. (i.e. The moderator can lead the opening prayer.)

Reflection 1:
Host: Hmm… Summer… Time flies really fast doesn’t it? Before we realized it, summer is over and we’re
here again at Xavier School. Speaking of summer how was your summer? Was it good, bad or somewhere
in between? I heard that some of the students got a summer job, some went to a China Study Tour, some
went to PKK, some planned ahead for this school year and some just stayed at home happily. What about
you, what did you do during the summer?

Host: Now to share with us their rendition of (name of the song), may I introduce you (the members of
the band)

compatible with reflections.

Reflection 2:
Host: When we were having fun during summer time, did we even care what happened in China? The
earthquake that struck the Sichuan Province and killed 65,000 lives with 23,000 missing so far that left
their relatives grieving for them. What about the cyclone that struck Myanmar that left millions of people
homeless and thousands of them dead? Did we even stop and think about them? Or maybe even just pray
for them? This is your time to give them your prayer. Let us pause for a moment and give them our
prayers.

Host: Now to share with us their rendition……

6 Performers x 1 Reflection Each = 6 Reflections

Note: You may split performers with more than 2 songs into 2 separate reflections.

Closing Prayer:
Host: Let me thank everyone who contributed in making this show possible--the YCLC, our performers
______, ______, ______ and of course, ______!

A YCLC moderator will lead everyone for the Closing Prayer.

Initial Script is complete. You may save as: “FFU July Script
Initial.docx”

II. Memoirs of a Host

“I can adlib anytime. I know the gist of the script anyway. No problem.”
“I need to know if there are changes. I must approach any of the organizers
(spirituality core) so that I can take note of them.”
“Where’s the venue? What time does it start? What time should I be there?”
“The crowd is quite noisy. People are standing up. I must settle them down.”
“One of the performers is missing?! Ladies and Gentlemen, let me share with
you my experience on… (While waiting for the performer)”
“This script is so boring and cheesy! I’ll just make it more interesting.”
Note: These are the qualities of a good host.
Spirituality Manual

III. Changes in the Application Form

Please change the following words that are in red:

Rules of Application:
* All application forms must be submitted to the YCLC drop box (2nd floor JR Building),
Aaron Quidilla (3H), David Ong (4A), or e-mailed to mattcomics2003@yahoo.com on
or before the given deadline.
* Unless otherwise agreed upon, all Unplugged performers must submit one (1)
Performer’s Application Form.
Additional Notes for Step 1

* Unless otherwise agreed upon, all performers must be able to present in a dryrun on a

date that will be scheduled in the future.
* In the event that the performance has to be cancelled, the performer/s must inform us
immediately.
During the Unplugged:
* All performers mustbe present outside the given venue 15 minutes before their given
time slot.

Note: You may make changes in the policies. This is just a part of the application form.

IV. Tips in reminding performers

Make sure that these performers confirmed that they are really going to
perform. Get their contact numbers.
You may remind them through text/e-mail/YM/personal encounter
Text Sample: “Hello! The First Friday Unplugged will be on July 3, 2009 at
the MPH from 4:30-5:30pm. Please submit your application forms ASAP.”
Keep reminding them to submit the forms. However, do it nicely.
Suggest songs for them if they cannot come up with any.
If you are not sure of the time and venue, do not give false information to
performers. If there are changes, inform them immediately.
Sometimes, the songs chosen by performers are not suitable to the
theme. To make things worse, there is obscenity and vulgarity in the
lyrics, which the HSPO condemns (Warning: you will be asked to come
up with an edited script once it reaches the HSPO).
o To prevent this from happening, check the lyrics and make sure
you have inserted the song properly within the script.
The host/s and performers must know the same information.

Spirituality Manual

2 weeks to go…

2-1
Script is done…
Performers confirmed…

Now for the paperwork.

Before starting on the paperwork…

Check if there are other events on the same day of the Unplugged. Go to the Accounting
Office and reserve the MPH. Counter-check from the SAP office the reservation of the
venue and time of the Unplugged. Remember, the MPH is the most crucial place for FFU.

Note: After confirming the time and venue, that’s the time to officially tell the
performers and host/s the correct information regarding the FFU. (i.e. “First Friday
Unplugged will be on July 3, 2009 at the MPH from 4:30-5:30pm,” change “will be” to
“is”)

Notes on last SY 2008-2009 FFUs:

 1st Friday of October was a half-day. Ergo, FFU is moved a week after.
 It was agreed that the FFU would be moved to a Thursday of
December to make way for the Christmas Committee’s preparations.
 The High 3 had their Corregidor Trip on the 1st Friday of February. It
Step 2-1

was decided that the FFU would be moved to the last Friday of
February. But then, the MPH was reserved by DWTL. Ergo, the only
available space is the MPC. Another option would have been the
Media-Ed, but it was too small.
 There was no November and January FFU because of the breaks.

Here’s an example of how a letter should look like. Do not Copy/Paste.

February, 2009

Dear Mrs. Cacacho,

Greetings! We are happy to inform you that YCLC will be having a Friday Unplugged on February 13,
2009 at the MPH.

This activity aims to let people reflect on their lives amid the busy month of February, and to help them
understand the real meaning of love as it is our theme for this month’s Unplugged. It is an opportunity where
people gather as one community to enjoy a few moments of peace while listening to relaxing music.

In this regard, we humbly request your support and approval of this activity. Attached with this proposal
are the script of the Friday Unplugged and the list of performers with their respective songs.

Thank you
In the spirit of Magis,
Please be more creative.

If it is not asked, do not accomplish this task anymore. It is optional.
However, once it is needed, fill in the necessary details on the blanks provided.
After approval from the HSPO, get the circular and Xerox them. Give them to the
YCLC members since First Friday Unplugged is a required activity.

Additional Notes:

I. It will only take a day to finish all the paperwork. Do not be overwhelmed by the bulk
because it’s just as simple as filling in your profile in Facebook or Multiply.

II. Do not cram. Cramming this will result into a chaotic Unplugged. Remember, you

bear the name of YCLC.

III. Finalize everything. Check if everything is completely filled up.

A. Teaser Video
As early as now, you may seek a professional to do the job for you or you may do it
yourself. Here are the reminders/guidelines for making the video:
The video should only be less than a minute.
The font should be readable since it will be shown during the assembly.
It should fit the theme of the Unplugged.
Basic details such as date, time, venue and theme should be indicated.

B. PA Announcement
Inform the moderator that you need to have a PA announcement on the
Thursday before Unplugged and the Unplugged day itself. He is usually responsible for
this. If the moderator disagrees, ask the ODS for the instructions on how to file for a PA
Announcement.

C. Posters
As early as now, you may ask someone to do the poster or you may do it yourself.
Here are 2 samples of posters, which will serve as a guide in making a poster for FFU:

Notes:
The clearer the poster, the better.
Shaped posters are better than ones printed on simple bond paper since
it can attract a lot of attention.
Print it on hard paper.
Ask the other members of the core group and moderator for comments
and suggestions.
Afterwards, edit your poster. Be sure that there is no obscenity in it.
The theme should be made clear, or at least the basic details are present.

D. GAs
Announce that there will be an FFU, which is required for all YCLCers. Tell them
that they are also expected to spread the word so as to promote the FFU.

Note: Tell the administration core group or community core group to take care of the
attendance. Facilitating the FFU will be heavy workload for the spirituality core group.

E. PowerPoint
As early as now, you may ask someone to make the PowerPoint for the
Unplugged. It generally contains the performers and songs so that the audience can
refer to their names in case they do not know the performer. Here are the guidelines for
making a PowerPoint:

The font must be readable from afar.

Background must not overpower the font color.
The theme should be well-established. Creativity is a must.
There must be “emergency” blank slides if ever there is a change in the
performer, song, etc.
Sounds in the PowerPoint are not allowed.

Note: The person making the PowerPoint must also be present in the FFU day itself.

F. Logistics
The logistics is usually handled by the moderator. Inform him when and where
the Unplugged will be held. Politely ask him to manage the logistics for the Unplugged.
However, if the moderator disagrees, then there’s no other choice but handle the
logistics yourself. You may ask a small group of YCLC members to help you in setting up
the venue at least a day before the event.

G. CadT/Ushers

OPTION AIt is recommended that a High 4 Student must be responsible for

managing the ushers, especially when the ushers are from CAdT. The High 4 Student must
approach Mr. Salumbides to ask for a couple of cadets to function as ushers during the
Unplugged.

Determine the number of ushers needed.

Go to Mr. Salumbides and ask if you could get Unplugged as a duty for CAdT.

Give him the list of people (High 4 only) who are willing to be an usher.

If approved, you now officially have ushers for Unplugged. Tell the High 4 Students to
WEAR Type C Uniform during the Unplugged.

Note: You will be temporarily promoted as commanding officer during Unplugged.

Option B  You may ask your fellow YCLC members to function as ushers during the
Unplugged. After all, the YCLC will be heading the Unplugged, and it’s best to have YCLCers help
out in this program.

o Announce in the GA that ushers will be needed during the Unplugged. Afterwards,
get a list of people who would like to help out (maximum of 5 ushers).

o As an added bonus, you can ask someone to help out in the operations such as Stage
Crew, wherein he will be the one to assist the performer in setting up.

o You may also ask people to help clean up after the Unplugged.

H. Rehearsals a.k.a. Dry-run

Step 2-2

The Dry-run is not an opportunity for the performers to practice their songs. At
this point, they should have rehearsed already and are prepared to let the first people
(Spirituality Core) listen to their song/s.

Notes:
As early as now, go to the HSPO and reserve the Media-Ed for the
Unplugged Dry-run. Make sure that there will be a teacher who can
facilitate on that day.
Afterwards, inform the performers about the Dry-run. Give them all the
details such as time and venue. Tell them to prepare their songs.
The deadliest deadline for reservation is a week before the Dry-run.
Usually, rehearsals are held on the week of Unplugged itself.
Constantly remind them that there is indeed a Dry-run. They have to be
there! Sample Text: “Hello! The dry-run for First Friday Unplugged will be
on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 4:10pm onwards. You are expected to
know your song/s by then. Please be there.”
For those who cannot attend, make sure that they have already practiced
enough. Teachers can only be trusted. Trust students at your own risk.

1
• Ask the moderator to sign the documents needed for the Proposal.
2
• Go to the SAP office and submit the Proposal and Poster for approval.
3
• Wait for the Proposal to be forwarded to the HSPO after SAP approval. Stand by
4 for any corrections.
• Go to the HSPO and see if Proposal is approved.
5
• If approved, you are now secured for FFU! Promotions to follow... start mass-
6 producing posters and posting them in the designated areas.
Step 3

Important Notes:
The deadliest deadline for the submission of the Final Proposal is on the Friday
before the First Friday Unplugged. It is recommended that you submit the
Proposal as early as possible in order to assure your reservation of the venue.
Other parties may interfere and grab the venue with the proper documents. As a
result, you become the loser.
If there are no further comments, posters which require colored printing must
be mass-produced so that the SAP coordinator will be able to sign all of them.
For the black-and-white posters, you may get the approved poster (with
signature) and mass-produce it in the Xerox area.
**Sometimes, the Xerox area encounters problems in photocopying. Thus, some
posters were too light in color. The ink was powdery, creating a mess whenever
people touch them. To be sure, photocopy elsewhere outside Xavier.
Provide the hard paper for the posters.

At this point, you should have all performers ready with their songs. Be sure that they
have been rehearsing on their own. All they have to do is wait for the dry-run of FFU to let
themselves be heard.
Here is a timeline of events during Hell Week of Unplugged. Note that every action here
can be done at an earlier period.

2 Things to Remember:
Do not panic- “Seriously, what’s the use of panicking? You already
prepared everything for the Unplugged. All you have to do is sit back and
enjoy the fruits of your labor.”
Be alert- “Okay, so being too relaxed would be the other extreme. Always
be alert for any changes. Remember, performers can just change their
song if they were not able to rehearse properly. Some performers can just
poof and disappear from the Unplugged without any notice. Hosts too
can just run away from their posts. There may be a change in order of
performers because of...blah blah blah. To keep it simple, always open

your eyes and ears for any suspecting problem that may occur.”

TIME SLOTS

12:10pm – Wait for the PA Announcement. If there was no announcement, wait for
the 12:15 bell.

12:15-1:10pm – Approach the moderator immediately and remind him that an

announcement must be made for the FFU. Make an ocular inspection of the venue to check
whether the set has been fixed. This is also the last chance to promote Unplugged throughout
High School.

3:55-4:00pm – Fix your bag as fast as you can. However, do not panic. Prepare
your clipboard and proceed immediately to the venue.

4:00-4:10pm – Assemble the people involved: PowerPoint clicker, Ushers,

Performers, Host/s, Moderator. Take note of their attendance in your clipboard. Give them the
final instructions. Place them in their respective posts. Keep the door open for visitors to come
in. Check if everything is okay. Make a sound system check, microphone test, etc.

4:10-4:25pm – IF some performers are not present, you have 15 minutes to get
them from the classrooms or faculty workroom. Remind them that the Unplugged will be
starting in a few moments, and it is an urgent request for them to proceed immediately to the
venue. Note: ask your partner to take over while you leave and search for missing people.
Step 5

4:25-4:30pm –
In 5 Minutes Accomplish the Following:
Ushers should let people sit down; doorman should stay outside the MPH.
The PowerPoint presentation must be flashed on screen; the person handling
the PowerPoint must stay at his post.
The Host/s should start settling the crowd on stage.
Lights and Sounds should be functioning properly.
Performers must know their cue; they should be seated already. Rehearsing
performers are only allowed to practice right outside the MPH. Rehearsing
elsewhere is strictly prohibited.
Both you and your partner must stay inside the MPH. However, if a performer is
still missing, only one is allowed to leave the MPH.

4:30pm – Door closes. First Friday Unplugged starts or stops. “Do we go on

with the show or do we call it “curtains” for our little program? Are you just going to let a
missing performer ruin a month’s worth of preparations? You decide.”

4:30-5:30pm – Cue the performers who will be next to perform. Facilitate the rest
of the Unplugged by keeping in touch with the host/s, performers, ushers, etc. In the end,
congratulate yourselves and prepare for the next Unplugged.
Spirituality Manual

Additional Notes:

I. The Nature of the 4:30-5:30PM Time Slot

Sometimes, the Unplugged starts later than the 4:30pm time slot because of several
factors, such as the number of audience members, missing performers, and lack of preparation.
This does not mean that future Unplugged programs have the liberty to start late. Anything that
is written on the final proposal must be strictly followed. It is damaging to the name of YCLC if
all future FFUs would always be unprepared and mediocre.

Important! - If the Unplugged exceeds 5:30pm, everything should end at exactly 6:00pm,
finished or unfinished.

II. Problems Encountered with Performers

Some performers do not express professionalism, and they turn their backs to YCLC
right before the Unplugged begins. Some do not even practice their songs, and what results is a
very atrocious performance. Some are just uninformed of the exact details of the Unplugged.
Be sure that the performers chosen are trustworthy. The details have to be made clear
and understandable. An effective Unplugged would start from a good proposal.

III. Aftermath of Unplugged

As the First Friday Unplugged draws to a close, do not forget to thank all the people
who made this possible. Furthermore, please do not forget to make an evaluation of the
Unplugged with some core group members so that more improvements can be made for the
future FFUs.
Congratulations! You just made a successful FFU!

Suggestions for First Friday Unplugged

A. Tarpaulin – Previous FFUs only have cartolinas stuck on the door with the words
“First Friday Unplugged, MPH, 4:30-5:30pm.” A better way to let the people know
where the Unplugged will be held is a more visible tarpaulin/banner placed on the door
of the MPH.

B. Video during FFU – Instead of a PowerPoint, you may use a repeating video to
make it livelier. In this way, the audience would get a feeling that they are in a remote
world, detached from all their endeavors and problems.

C. Delegation – Delegating tasks is not only helpful but also fulfilling since there is
more involvement from the YCLC members. It builds trust and unity between the core
and the members. However, the final proposal will always be your responsibility in the
end.
Spirituality Manual

B. Vigil Night

The YCLC Vigil Night aims to help YCLCers understand the true meaning of
Christmas. YCLCers will be able to form a deep relationship with Mary, the virgin Mother of God.
It also gives an opportunity for all members to bond with one another as sworn brothers. Vigil
Night is not a night to keep people awake, but a symbolic means to realize how much love God
gave us by sending his only Son, Jesus, the light of the world.

General Guidelines for Vigil Night

Accountabilities – The YCLC is not responsible for any lost items during the
overnight. However, all the lost and found items will be presented during a GA,
and unclaimed ones will proceed directly to the ODS.
Planning and Organization – All preparations have to be made before the Vigil
Night. Any form of meeting to discuss plans with the activity during the night
itself is highly unacceptable. Every activity should be handled by each core
group member.
Information – All core group members have to be well-informed of all activities,
as well as the time slots of the overnight activity. Nobody is excused from not
knowing what to do at any specific time.
Proposal – Similar to the Friday Unplugged proposal, the same principles of
proposal-making are applied here. Moreover, every single detail such as budget,
timeline of activities, etc. must be written in the proposal.
Guidelines

Time Management – Whatever time allotment is written in the proposal should

be strictly followed. Postponement of activities or extending the time for “lights
out” is a sign of unpreparedness.
Rules and Regulations – Aside from the school rules, strict guidelines must be
implemented during the overnight. Inform the YCLCers through various forms of
communications. Ignorance will not be an excuse for breaking any law.
Circular – Everything needed for the overnight must be written clearly in the
circular. Rules and Regulations must also be written here.
Participation – All activities must involve the YCLCers.
Values from the CLC Way of Life – Like all overnight activities, the YCLCers must
be able to appreciate the CLC Way of Life through the meaningful activities done
in the Vigil Night.
Significance/Impact – The purpose and objective of the Vigil Night must be
present all throughout. Activities should have an impactful experience to all the
YCLCers. Digression from the main theme is highly discouraged.
Delegation – Although the head of the activity is one of the spirituality core,
organizing a Vigil Night is not a one-man task. Therefore, it is recommended that
all members of the core group, and perhaps some YCLCers are able to help out in
doing tasks.
Note: There was no Vigil Night last SY 2008-2009.

Spirituality Manual

IV. Conclusion †
Limitations

Despite the comprehensiveness of this manual, it does not necessarily mean that the
spirituality core group members are limited to following what is being demanded from them. In
fact, they are challenged to do more. A concrete example for this would be accomplishing the
tasks at an earlier period of time. As leaders and YCLCers, the spirituality core group should
persevere in all the endeavors in order to fulfill his responsibilities.

Partnership

There is a reason why there are two spirituality core group members: to support one
another in striving to carry out the mission of Christ. Partnership among YCLCers is unique and
unbreakable because there is a sense of brotherly love and concern for one another. As
partners, the spirituality core group will be able to spread God’s love by being good examples to
his fellow YCLCers.

Preparing for the SAT…

SAT means “Spirituality Administrative Test.” It is a way of knowing how much a
person is aware of his own aspect. It also helps in the improvement and development of the
person as a leader of the Youth Christian Life Community.

The SAT has three main parts: multiple choice, essay and identifying errors. It
does not test a person’s knowledge nor measure a person’s intelligence. This test is basically a
practical test, which generally contains basic information regarding spirituality. Skills in
situational analysis are also needed.

The person does not need to prepare for the test. After reading the manual, he is
only expected to use his mind and heart in answering the questions.

You can do it!

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.
