TRENDS

SpecialistcoffeeshopscontinuedtoexpandrapidlythroughoutPeru.Playersinthiscategorytarget
middleandupperincomeconsumers,especiallyyoungworkingorprofessionalsegments.Drinking
coffeeinawellknownchainedspecialistcoffeeshopcanprojectanimageofsuccessandhigh
economicstatus,thuscontributingtothesuccessofthecategory.Specialistcoffeeshopshave
establishedapremiumcoffeeconsumptiontrend,offeringexpensivecoffeewhichincludesgourmet
ingredientsandotheralternativeoptions.

Cafs/barsrecordedfoodservicevaluegrowthof12%in2015,animportantincreaseoverthe9%
growthrecordedin2014.However,itisexpecteditthatthecategorywillcontinuetogrowatalower
rateovertheforecastperiodduetothenewpopularityofandnewfranchisesincoffeeinPeru.

Specialistcoffeeshopswasthebestperformingcategoryin2015,recordingfoodservicevaluegrowth
of28%andoutletgrowthof17%.Thecategoryregisteredrapidgrowthasitcontinuedtoexpand
acrossthecountry.ThecityofLimawasthefirstcitytowitnesstheseoutlets.However,specialistcoffee
shopshavesinceexpandedtoothermajorcities.

Cafs/barsnormallyfocusmoreondrinksthanfood.However,theofferoffoodincreasedoverthe
reviewperiod,reflectingdemandfromconsumersandtoenhancetheirexperiencewhileatthesame
timegeneratingmorerevenue.

Barandpubsnormallytargetyoungadultsinthe1830agesegment.However,therearespecialbars
andpubswhichtargetconsumersover30andofferadifferentexperience,amoresophisticated
ambiance,premiumcocktailsandmusicevents.Theseestablishmentsareconceivedforhigherincome
consumerswhoarewillingtopaymore.

Cafstypicallyattractawiderconsumerbaseof3060yearoldconsumers.Inaddition,playersinthis
categorytypicallylooktoattractworkingconsumers.

Specialistcoffeeshopstargetyoungerworkingconsumersoradultstudentsinthe2045age
segment.MostoftheseoutletsofferfreeWiFi,whichisveryusefulforstudentsandadultsmeeting
withpeerstostudyorwishingtoconductaninformalbusinessmeeting.

Despitecafsandspecialistcoffeeshopsofferingteaasanalternativeoption,mostconsumersprefer
coffeeinitsdiversepresentationsratherthantea.Teaconsumptionisverylowincoffeeshops.

COMPETITIVELANDSCAPE
Delosicontinuedtoleadcafs/barsin2015,recordingafoodservicevalueshareof56%inthe
chainedcategory.ThecompanyoperatestheStarbucksfranchiseinPeruandhasexpandedvery
rapidlyacrossthecountry.ThefirstStarbucksoutletinSouthAmericawasopenedinPeruand
althoughthefranchiseenteredthemarketwiththeideaoffocusingeffortsonlyonthecapital,Lima,
Starbuckshasgrownsorapidlythatexpansionintootherprovinceshasbecomeareality.Accordingto
anarticlepublishedbyPeruThisWeek,theSeniorVicePresidentofStarbucks,Mr.RichNelsen,stated
that:ThereareasmanyStarbucksstoresinPeruasthereareinallofBrazil.TradepressGestion
addedthatPerurepresents10%oftheregionalmarketforthechain.ThesuccessofStarbucksinPeru
isduetohighqualityingredients,primelocations,goodserviceandthesupportofaninternational
brandwithinnovativeproductstoenhanceconsumersexperience.

Delosiregisteredanimportantincreaseinvaluesalesin2015duetotheopeningoffournewoutlets.
Thecompanyfollowedaveryaggressiveexpansionplanwhichhasdefinitelyrewardeditwithaclear
leadershipposition.

DelosioperatesnotonlyStarbucks,butalsodifferentfranchisesinthefullserviceandfastfood
categories,suchasChilis,PizzaHut,KFCandPinkberry.Delosiisthelargestfranchiseegroupinthe
countryandhasoutstandingknowledgeintermsofsuccessfullyintroducinganinternationalbrandto
Peru.

Thereweresomemajordevelopmentsintermsofmenuin2015inthespecialitycoffeeshop
category.NewfranchisessuchHavannaandOrgannikaattractedmoreconsumerswithinthiscategory.
Theofferoflightfoodoptionsinsummercontinued,inadditiontofrappsandrefreshers.Healthy
snacks,suchaswalnutsorothernuts,havebeenaddednexttocheckouts.

ItisveryimportanttohighlightthatExpertosenCafPer,operatoroftheColombianbrand,Juan
Valdez,enteredthePeruvianmarketin2011andhasgrownrapidly,with12storesin2015and
reachingfoodservicevaluesalesofn/s20.6millionin2015fromn/s8.5millionin2013.Thedemandfor
premiumcoffeeinPeruisveryhighandtheentryofthisnewplayerisproofthatthePeruvianmarketis
capableofabsorbingnewoffersinthiscategory.

Juice/smoothiebarsrecordedweakfoodservicevaluegrowthof1%in2015toreachn/s16.5million,
significantlylowerthanspecialistcoffeeshops,withstiffcompetitioninthisnewcategory.Local
franchiseDisfrutaledthecategorywithavalueshareof21%attheendofthereviewperiod,through
10outlets.

PROSPECTS

Thecafs/barscategoryisexpectedtorecordafoodservicevalueCAGRof6%atconstant2015
pricesovertheforecastperiod.Itisexpectedthatspecialistcoffeeshopswillcontinuetogrowrapidly,
whilstjuice/smoothiebarsisalsosettogrowduetorisingconcernsamongPeruviansabouttheirhealth
andgeneralwellbeing.Thisisinlinewiththeglobaltrendandcouldchangethedynamicofconsumer
foodserviceinPeru.

ThecategorysprojectedfoodservicevalueCAGRof6%islowerthanthereviewperiodCAGRof
10%whencomparedatconstant2015prices.Thisisbecausegrowthover20102015was
exceptionallyhighandthedecelerationoftheeconomyandtheinstabilityoftherealestatemarketmay
resultinsomeproblemsintermsoffutureexpansion.Anotherfactorthatwilllikelyleadtoadeclinein
thegrowthrateforthecategoryisthatconsumersareoverservedbyconsumerfoodserviceplayers,
reachingapointwherecompetitionwillbeincreasinglytough.

Apotentialthreattothegrowthofthecategorymaybethepossibilityofaworldorlocaleconomic
crisisaffectingthepurchasingpowerofconsumersorencouragingthemtodiverttheirfundsforeating
