Section one Complete Demonstration

In order to make you understand easily,

I will divided Xiao Hong Quan into six sections.

Now I will give demonstration to the first section.

Section One step-by-step explanation and demonstration

Now I will first explin the meanings of shaolin boxing.

It very important to explain the meanings of the meanings of the shaolin Xiiao Hong
Quan.

You can see that when I begin to prctise, there is a movement in which the palms
separate forward and to both sides,

then close in front of the chest.

I hope that you won't mistake that I give this formality

just because I am a buddhist.

actually, that is not the tuth.

You can see that

my palms hold slowly

from each side to the front side.

Raise them slowly.

that means to regulate the qi.

Gather all the air ad air field

in the centers of both plms.

Then join them together in the head,

just like balloon on the head.

then hold the balloon between the palms,

and put it in front of the chest.

Exhale dispssiontely.

this is not Qigong as what is said,

nor is it simply the closng-hand slute s what the buddism gives.

It is a way of practicing to gther

the qi and qi fieldin the nature.

and it is foundby the bddhism.


Generlly, to our buddhists, it is regarded as to

close hnds to give a salute.

And it also contins a meanings of

inhaling the clean air of the world,

and it can keep you healthy.

Give the sense of keeping health to others

and to all of you.

In addition, the shout we give out,

the shout,

such as Amitabha buddha,

or bodhisattva,

is a form of incantation.

Its most important sense is to gve the qi and qi field in our body

to the others.

this is the first movement.

the first movement of all the shaolin boxing

should generally be in this way.

that means bfore the commencing form,

the arms should extend naturally.

close the palms and drop them from the head

to the chest.

As for the Xio Hong Quan,

there is a sying about sholin boxing:

Xiao Hong Quan is the son of all the boxing.

Da hong Quan is the mther of all the boxing.

it is said tht xiao hong quan is developed from the da hong quan.

If we want to study shaolin boxing,

we should first learn the xiao hong quan.

why?
Because the xiao hong quan of shaolin boxing

It centralizes all the stances and foot techniques of the saholin boxing.

In the boww stance, crouch stance, horse-riding stance, t-step and empty stance,

every posture is very clear.

Every posture and every movement is practiced very plain

and very clear.

It seems very esy to practise xiao hong quan,

but it is one of the basic boxing,

and it is one of the basic boxing of practicing kung fu.

I could tell,

from your practicing of xiao hong quan,

your level of practicing of xiao hong quan.

I can also tell how well

you practise the whole shaolin boxing.

so in the past, the aged wushu masers,

the seniors in the martial art circle and the eminent monks of every generation in
shaolin temple

pay very special attention to the practicing of xiao hong quan.

xiao hong quan

had been come down for hundreds of years.

but the detail time and history of the xiao hong qun's coming down

are not what we are going to talkabout in this leture.

in this lecture we will only focus on the teching of shaolin xiao hong quan.

Form 1 Preparing form

put the palms horizontally beside the legs.

stand naturally.

you need not to stand at ttention. stand at ease.

there could be some distance between the feet.

just stand very naturally.


Be dispssionate while standing.

smooth the qi of viscera.

Adjust the qi well.

after adjusting the qi,

stretch the arms to both sides from the outer side of the legs.

then imagine that

all the air in the

is purified. And you absorb the clean air into your palms.

On the upper-front of your head,

it fors a strong circulation of qi.

then hold a ball with your palms.

fold the palms in front of the chest.

this is the comencing form, the preparing form.

All the preparing form of shaolin boxing

should generally be in this way.

this is the first movement of sholin xiao hong quan,

the preparing form.

the feet stand naturally separately, with a distance equal to that between the
shoulders.

hold fists beside the waist.

the commencing form is called regulting the qi.

that means to regulate one's spleen,

the body and the resiration.

Both heels lift over the ground.

Raise the hands from the waist slowly,

to the position of the chest.

Put therm below the chest. don't get over the chest.

It is easy to make mistake if the hands are over the chest.

raise qi at the moment.

press the qi. Press it downward.

then hold the hands beside the waist

to form a irculation of qi

It should no be in this way

the fists should be not separated too far.

otherwise you can't join the qi together.

If the qi is not concentrated, you won't hve strength to practise boxing.

so they should be closer.

this is the teaching method of traditionl shaolin boxing

what we are practising now is traditional shaolin boxing,

so we will prctise

according to the traditional method

this is the prepring form

Now I will demonstrate

the commencing form preparing form

Form 2 hold the moon in arms

both hands converge

on the upper front of the pubic region

Put the right hand above and the left hand below

the palms slap each other slightly

Form 3 white clouds is over the head

the right hand raises up from the chest

slowly with a rolling posture to the upper side

hold it on upper-front of the head

drop the left hand down slown slowly and put it on the outer side of the left leg

the center of the left plm faces out

this is the movement of white clouds is over the head

now I will give complete demonstration

Form 4 push Palm in bow stance

take left step forward and push the left palm

if you want to push the left palm, you should first move the right palm

this is the feture of the shaolin boxing

it is called rolling in and out

No matter which fist or leg you want to move,

you should first move the opposite prt. For exmple, if you want to move the left
side, you should first move the right side

I will give complete demonstration

to this movement

start from the white clouds is over the head

now I will give explantion and demonstration


to this movement

push palm in bow stance. Let's start from the white clouds is the head.

the left foot takes a step to the left front

the left hand first goes out from beside the right hand

the left hand comes out

from the inner side of the forearm of the right hand

the left palm rolls back and forth.

the left plm moves in rolling posture

then the left palm pushes out and the arm should not be too stright

don't punch out and don't be too strainght

It also should not be in this way. You should stand your palm

It should be in arc in the place

hold the right hand beside the waist

the eyes wtch horizontally to the front

the tiptoes move inside slightly

to gather the inner qi

now we will give demonstration

to the push palm in bow stance

Form 5 hold hand and shrink body

Extend the right hand from the waist

draw back the left leg

to the inner side of center of the rght foot

land the left toes on the ground

the left hand slaps downward

the right hnd upward


change the palms info fists

the head faces the left front

Form 6 step forward and push palm

now I will give complete demonstration

to the step forward and push palm

shep forward and push palm. take a left step forward

the left foot takes a step to the left front

put the left hnd in front of the chest supinely

put the right hand in front of the chest with the palm facing down

the left hand rolls out from the inner side of the right arm

then turn the fists into palms slowly

step forward and push palm

the tiptoes move inside

to form the bow step on the left

the eyes watch horizontally to the front.

Form 7 turn around and press hand

the next movement is turn around and press hand

turn the body right. the left foot twists on the ground

Raise the right foot and take a pad-step

taking a pad-step means stand still on original position


raise the foot and then reach the ground

raise the left hand from the left part of the chest

turn the ringht palm in reverse and press it outward from the inner side of the
left arm

with the center of the palm facing inside and the bck of the hand facing outside

to punch the opponent's face

put the left palm on the outer side of the left waist

the eyes watch the right hand and form a bow step on the right

now we will give complete demosntration

to the turn around and press hand

form 8 step forwrd and push palm

the next movement is step forward and push palm

now I will give explanation and demonstration to

the step forward and push palm

take a left step forward and push the left palm

the left hand pushes outward from the inner side of the right arm

the top the right hand should be at the sme height with the nose

the eyes watch to the front and form a bow step on the left

the right hand holds a palm

put the right palm beside the waist

with the center of the palm facing up

the next movement is turn around and cover leg

now I will give explanation and demonstration

to the turn around nd cover leg

turn the body. Turn the left foot right.

turn the body right and raise the left foot

Both hands block out from each side of the waist

then move in a circle and turn over the palms

next cover them on the upper front of the left leg

form10 outside lotus kick (right oblique form)

now I will give complete explanation nd demonstration

to outside lotus kick ( right oblique form)

the left foot reches the ground. the hands turn into fists.

and hold them beside the waist

the right leg moves in an rc from upper front to the right

the hands come out from the waist

turn the body and change both fists into plms with centers facing down

slap the right instep at the same time

then reach the ground to form the horse-riding stance

next, change it into oblique form

slap the foot, then form a house-riding stance and right oblique form

Now I will give an opposite-side demonstration


to the transition movement the horse-riding stance

Form 11 Insert hand and shrink body

the next movement is insert hand nd shrink body

now I will explin demonstrate

the Inser hnd and shrink body

the right hand presses downward.

the left hand comes out from the inner side of the right hand

the right foot moves inside


to the center of the arch of the left foot,

and form the t-step.

the head faces horizontally to the right front.

this is called insert hand and shrink body.

Now we will demonstrate

form 12 kick up and hammer down

now I will demonstrate and explain the kick up and hammer down.

stand up. the right foot takes a small step forward.

the left hand holds a fist on the outer side of the left shoulder.

the right foot kicks from the lower part to the upper front.

the right hand hammers downward.

this is called kick up and hammer down

form 13 left Oblique form

change from the transition movement to the horse-riding stance.

both hands hold fist.

after the holding fists,

the next movement is left oblique form.

form a horse-riding stance and turn the body left at the same time.

both hands extend from the chest to the left front

to form a circle on the left; that is half circle on the left.

both arms block horizontally.

this is called left oblique form

form 14 brush hands in a crouch stance

the next movement is brush hands in a crouch stance

the crouch stance. change from the bow step on the left to the crouch stance on the
right

turn the body from the left to the right

change from fists to palms

brush hands forward pressing close to the ground.

the next movement is lion opens its mouth

now I will give complete demonstration and explanation

to the lion opens its mouth

raise the body and chnge from couch stance to bow step

the left hand blocks forward from upper front

put the right hand on the upper front on the right knee

put the left hand on the upper front of the head

to prevent it from being hurt

the next movement is step forward and form seven-stars

take a step forward. one hand moves forward once

first, take a left step forward

the left foot takes a step forward. the left hand moves

around the hed from the upper front of the head to the back of it

then take a step forward, and thrust fist

take a second step. the right foot takes a step forward

the right hnds moves in a circle

from the right side of the waist to the upper front of the head

stride one step, then thrust out.

the next movement is single whip with horse-riding stance

the left foot takes a step backward

turn the body and the hands hold fists

put them before the chest. The eyes watch horizontally to the front

then, break the hands out just like breaking loose the ropes

both hands block horizontally with the arms in the same height with the shoulders

this is called single whip with horse-riding stance
