BASIC SAFETY
Before using this equipment and to avoid personal injury, carefully read and understand these instructions. If there is
anything you do not understand, DO NOT use this equipment, contact your local supplier for advice.
Make sure you are aware of all safety requirements and that this equipment is suitable for the task you wish to undertake.
The work area must be cordoned off from the general public and bystanders.
This equipment must not be erected, used or dismantled by persons who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Do not use this equipment if you are tired or unwell.

This equipment must only be used by persons who are medically fit to do so. If you have any medical
condition, are recovering from any medical condition or suffer from any mental or physical disability, you
MUST seek professional medical advice before using this equipment.

You MUST perform a risk assessment before using this equipment to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
Wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment for the task ahead.
Wear gloves when handling this equipment. Steel toecap boots must be worn. Wear a hard hat.
DO NOT wear loose jewellery or clothing that may get in the way or become trapped in the equipment. Tie back long
hair.
Inform everyone in the work area of what you are doing.
DO NOT lean from the platform and never apply a lot of side force, maximum 20kn.
Never use step ladders or similar to gain additional height.
DO NOT use this equipment where there are overhead power lines or similar hazards within your reach and that of the
equipment.
This equipment must not be used in wind conditions above 17 mph, (7.7 m/s, Beaufort scale 4; Large branches in motion;
whistling heard in telegraph wires; umbrellas used with difficulty).
If the wind becomes a strong breeze, expected to reach 25mph (11.3 m/s), tie the tower to a rigid structure. If the wind
is likely to reach a gale force, over 40mph (18 m/s), the tower should be dismantled.
Take care when using mobile scaffold towers in hangars or uncovered buildings as the wind force may be increased due
to a funnelling effect.
Only use this equipment if you are comfortable working at heights.
Never suspend the tower from another structure.
Make sure that all four castors are locked and remain in contact with the ground at all times.

RAISING COMPONENTS
You must not raise any tower component at height by carrying it. Use suitable rope to tie to each component and haul
up.

LIMITATIONS OF USE
The tower must only be erected on firm ground capable of bearing its weight, plus tools and users.
It MUST NOT be used to access another structure.

WORK AREA PREPARATIONS

Clear the floor area of all obstacles and debris. Where possible sweep the floor.
Cordon off the work area and where applicable, stop any pedestrian or forklift activity.

PRE-INSPECTION
Check each component for condition and correct operation BEFORE you start erecting the tower. Any faulty or damaged
items MUST be replaced before erecting the tower.
As you inspect each part, segregate types to make the task easier.

ACCESSING THE TOWER

Always use the tower frames built in ladder rungs to access platforms and climb from inside the tower NEVER from the
outside.
When climbing, always keep your feet in the middle of the rungs and grip the upper rungs with your hands NEVER the
sides.
When ascending or descending, you must keep your hands free to grip the rungs, so if you need to carry anything with
you, use a suitable tool belt.
Do not lean a ladder against the tower.
Do not jump from, or to the tower frames or platforms.

MAXIMUM SAFE WORKING LOAD
Each platform has a maximum safe working load of 200 kg/m2 and this must be spread evenly over the platform area.
The tower is NOT designed for attaching additional equipment to it IE a hoist.

ASSEMBLY OF COMPONENTS
The Tower components will need assembling before the tower can be erected. You will need 1 x 17mm spanner for the
assembly of the ballast bar, and 2 x 10mm spanners for the Snaplock assembly.

Stabilisers Snaplocks
All Stabilisers will need to have the The Snaplocks must be fitted to the
ballast bars bolted into place. Position horizontal and diagonal braces. When
the bar on the outer side of the stabiliser fitted, the locks should be opened ready
and secure with the nut and washer for attachment to a frame tube. Attach
provided. As these will support quite one snap lock to each end of all
substantial weights, make sure they are horizontal and diagonal braces.
securely fitted.

Interlock Clip Screw Clamps

The Interlock Clip is basically a spring These simple screw clamps are used to
clip fitted with a pin that locates into a secure the stabilisers to the towers
retaining hole. When the pin is inserted vertical corner tubing.
into a hole it is held in place by the
spring. It is used to lock the tower
frames together when they are placed
one on top of the other.

3T (THROUGH THE TRAPDOOR) SYSTEM

This method of construction reduces the risk faced by the erector from a fall. You will
complete an assembly platform from which to add the next lift then another platform until
the final height is reached.
Using standard components, the erector will always be protected by a set of guard rails.
These will be attached to the frames whilst the erector sits on the platform with legs through
the hatch.
USE THIS METHOD! It has been developed for your safety. If you ignore it, you risk serious
injury or death.

Do take into consideration the maximum weights that can be applied to your respective tower, see MAXIMUM SAFE
WORKING LOAD.
Toeboards
ALL Work Platforms must be fitted with toeboards to prevent tools and materials from slipping off the platform and falling
to the ground.

SAFETY CHECK
Once the tower has been completed, it must be checked by a competent person before it can be used.

SAFETY CHECK LIST

All Components free from damage

Toeboards Correctly Positioned on ALL Work Platforms
MOVING A TOWER
If you need to move the tower to a new location or a new level, fully dismantle it and rebuild at the new location.
If you wish to move the tower a small distance on the same level, remove all personnel, materials, tools and anything
else from the tower. Reduce the tower height to a maximum of 2 metres before moving.
Raise the stabilisers legs so that the foot pads are approximately 25 mm off the ground.
With help, unlock all castors, move the tower then relock castors and level the tower ready for rebuilding to the required
height.

Once the tower has been completed, it must be checked by a competent person before it can be used.

TYING IN
Tying in should be considered to add to stability.
DISMANTLING THE TOWER
Dismantle the tower by reversing the erection sequence but pay special attention to the following procedure regarding
the 3T system.
You MUST always be protected by a full set of guard rails when standing on a platform. When dismantling using the 3T
system, the snaplocks on the end of the braces that are positioned to the far end of the tower will need to be
disconnected before you sit within the trapdoor.
This should be performed with the greatest of care, and once disconnected you should go directly to the trapdoor and
sit on the platform with your feet on the lower frame rungs.
From this position you can disconnect the remaining snaplocks and remove the braces.
EMERGENCY PLAN
In case of an emergency where the user may require medical assistance for whatever reason, make an emergency plan
whereby everyone knows exactly what action is required. Give each person specific responsibilities.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE & CLEANING
When not being used, store the unit in a clean condition and in a safe place, away from thieves and unauthorised users.
TOWER SECURITY
If leaving an erected tower unattended you must block access to the tower by unauthorised persons. Use suitable mesh
fencing or boarding to make access impossible. If you cannot block access, the tower MUST be dismantled.
