Creating SEG-Y Velocity in VISTA

VISTA is not only a robust, stand-alone seismic processing software package but it also
provides users easy-to-use tools to convert file formats so that other applications (that are not

Schlumberger
compatible) can communicate with each other.

Schlumberger-Private
In this presentation, we will take a VISTA velocity dataset and then create a workflow to

Private Customer Use

generate a SEG-Y.

Then we will load the SEG-Y into Petrel.

The velocity file now appears in the Group data list.
We will use this file as input into the job flow to create the SEG-Y
dataset.
To be able to load this SEG-Y into Petrel, we need to have the X,Y,
Inline and Crossline information in the headers.
Method 1 Modify Headers using Standard SEG-Y Dictionary

The Standard SEG-Y dictionary does not output the inlines and crosslines.

Schlumberger
Schlumberger-Private
There are a number of ways you can modify the flow or data to get the inline, crossline information output in the
SEG-Y.

Private Customer Use

This document will show you 3 different ways to achieve this.

The standard dictionary does output SHOT-POINT-NO and CHANNEL_NO

So we will modify the headers so that SHOT_POINT_NO and CHANNEL_NO contain the inline and crossline
information.

Press the H icon to the left of the dataset name
